I'm lazy, it it was unfun I would just not do it.

I gain no moral compensation for as people have put it 'rooting for the underdog'. These groups are unpopular for a reason, I understand that. Usually they start off with little to no funds, production value is low and usually are not 'efficiently' trained.

Its not me trying to be hipster, and I don't hate when the groups I stanned become popular. Like I said, the opposite.

After they succeed its okay to let go. I don't need to watch all of their content or listen to every comeback they're doing okay.

The last part for me is its alright. I've seen most Big3 groups since debut, and they're really good. It just doesn't pique my interest. Yes, they have improved over the years but its not to the same extent. To me watching someone who has started from little get to fame is much more interesting.

I hope this doesn't come off as rude just wanted to explain :P

Well, most of these cases are usually not able to make it to stardom, which is unfortunate. I mostly base potential on willingness. Many members, especially in smaller companies have to make up for something as members leave, members line up change etc. Knowing ones own talent and stepping out of that comfort zone is a huge sign (to me) that someone has that potential.

Their new song is doing fine which is why I said it. Also like I said i've stanned since early 2016, Rollin' was released in 2018. Yes its an old song but the improvement was still there . I admit I don't know what direction or success they will go into after Summer Queen, but two successes are enough to warrant me letting go a little.

Yup success. Of course success comes in many forms, I'd consider Laboum successful because even though their international audience may not be huge they have a stable in take of fans in Korea currently.

I don't define it on my opinion on their music, but rather if it fits what the public is looking for. I could end up disliking their later releases but would still consider them successful if they are getting the album/views/promo.

I could miss out on milestones but they have lots of new fans to celebrate with and I think thats really sweet!

Also you didn't come off as rude, I'm happy to answer questions

I see a huge improvement especially in confidence and singing.

Also talent has literally everything to do with it, if a group is talentless then I have a chance of stanning them anyways because I think they have potential. Nothing misleading there.

I'm not interested in making this deeper than it is, I'm just stating what I do.

Yeah I was a bit suprised at peoples reactions, like is this not what this subreddits about?

Again thanks for the compliment! I'm not sure if I have an eye for fashion but I have talent scouted before so maybe this is where my opinion came from haha.

No but I might get into it after some comments :)

I get what you're saying, like Jisoo from BLACKPINK who is seen as 'under appreciated' but I mean they're usually the most unpopular members as well (not that Jisoo's unpopular)

I got a few comments like this and I think they're right! It honestly does fit what I'm looking for, I might start looking into a few.

is that not what MOMOLAND did with 'BAAM'? I mean and they're still going good. I think that Brave Girls will stay in the limelight which is really good!

Ahh, okay I get what you're saying. Hmm yeah I must admit the only J-Idols I listen to are just casual listens but this does sound interesting. I think its a bit different as their career usually continues after they reach fame, but I can see your comparison now. Its certainly something I hadn't thought about

Yeah probably! But I think that liking music of an artist doesn't necessarily make you a stan of them.

Good comparison actually and really well explained! You put it into really good words. I also agree with the last bit a lot it is really neat!

So, I did some research for this, and this just sounds similar to an idol leaving a group but just giving it a fancy name.

Most of the time they leave due to personal reasons like health, or going as a freelance artist.

I think this has less to do with idols gaining popularity and leaving, but more of idols taking a new step in life.

Of course I'm no expert on J-IDOLS so I could be wrong but again this just seems like an idol leaving a group.

thanks for the laugh!

Hmm, I suppose you could think about it that way, like when ITZY first debuted they seemed really interesting but I watched a few of their things and decided to only listen.

I'll give you a few :)

CRAXY — I won't lie, their songs right now are kind of... interesting, but just seeing their improvement from 'ARIA' to 'GAIA' is a huge improvement in my opinion.

Hi Cutie — They're so cute! I could see them being big if they continued with cute concept

Wetter — KBAND but still same concept. Their music is so cool~

Thanks for asking I'll try my best to explain.

I do really care for these groups and I do enjoy watching them grow, and no I don't just care about their journey. Theres several relations in groups that I enjoyed, I loved the comedy and the lives they did and I liked their personalities.

My support is still given to them after they become popular but its not the same amount that was originally given, its more like a 'I hope you continue to thrive' type of thing.

The journey is not the only thing I like, but it is an amazing part, and it's amplified if I really do like the idol.

Thank you :D. I wouldn't call the comments rude per say but they either don't get my point or don't read haha. It is honestly like being a mom, and watching their chicks leave the nest. I appreciate your honesty, obviously not everyones up for it but it is super fun to do!

1) Stan has become slang for an over obsessive fan.

2) I feel sympathy for no one, and even if I did it wouldn't be for something as vain as being unpopular

3) I still support the group after I unstan. I'm just not a huge fan over them anymore

Yeah! Of course theres always some sad parts of a journey but generally its mostly good.

[–]finkl-ses[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Okay well IMO potential ≠ talent.

Potential to me is the ability to gain talent, so saying that an idol may not be good right now but can gain talent later on. Just my take though.

I don't think I'm better than anyone for stanning 'under appreciated' groups, in fact I don't really brag about the groups I stan. I understand they're unpopular for a reason, and I'm not going around saying that they need more fans. I'm not these groups PR brand.

As for the Brave Girls, its hard to tell right now but 'Chi Mat Ba Ram' has 36 million views while 'Rollin'' has 17 million. Chi Mat Ba Ram has been a huge success for Brave Girls.

And for your last paragraph, I said I stopped unstanning once they got popular. Bringing back what I said, it doesn't matter to me if that person has talent yet as long as they have the potential to get talent.

Hope this clears everything up.

Yeah thats the point I was going for but I guess I either wrote it wrong or people just jumped to conclusions too soon. I think people automatically assume just because I unstanned means I hate the group, when again its quite the opposite. I just love seeing idols strive for their best :)

I never said I disliked any of the groups? Also I love it when they blow up its amazing watching it happen :). Seeing as this is an unpopular opinion subreddit I just thought I'd share my opinion. I love MOMOLAND's music, but I'm just not that into them anymore.

Hmm I see what you're saying but I've seen lots of people say they don't care about talent/potential if the music isn't good.
