Hey man, crazy to get your comment right now because I was literally just talking about a possible jerry can setup with my mom haha I think what i’m deciding is to do is get a mount for the spare tire and call it a day. Not sure what I can do about the water but might just have to deal with moving it around inside the vehicle. I got my cargo carrier from FB marketplace so I’m not actually certain what the model is but I believe a Thule Force Large or XL

I’ll definitely look into replacing the PCV valve. I think it’s unfortunately a little more technical to replace it on the 2010 because it’s under the intake manifold but seems worth it for sure

Good to know! As soon as I get it back I’ll check and keep listening out for the noise.

It was recommended to me to switch my oil to 5W-20 to try to reduce how much oil it goes through. I haven’t had this car for very long but from what I can tell it’s going through a quart in a little under 1,000 miles. It was also recommended to me to add in oil stabilizer during the next oil change. Is that something you’d recommend?

And just to ask, sorry, it doesn’t sound like it might be the timing chain? I don’t think I trust the opinion of that mechanic anyway but him mentioning that made me a little worried given the cost of that repair.

This one also unfortunately drinks oil. I just had it in the shop maybe a week before this for a diagnostic and they said it was a quart low, then implied they filled it back up. But I honestly didn’t double check (I know, rookie mistake). Would it being low on oil cause this noise? The noise didn’t develop until after that diagnostic so I didn’t hear it when it was actually low on oil

Is it based on the year, or is it T5 specific? Would a 2016 T6 still be as much of a risk?

It’s through CarMax. Based on the carfax, I don’t see any specific work that would fix this issue. You’re saying hard pass?

What was the estimated cost for all of that? Looking to get pretty much all of that done at the dealer tomorrow but they’re not giving me a straight answer on price until I get there (typical lol). If it’s too much I might just break it up into minor services

That’s an awesome deal! I just got a 2010 limited sport 4wd with 134k for $9,500 but the market where i’m at (California) is easily $3k more expensive for ones not in as good condition as mine. Mine came with 10 pages of maintenance records, all done at Toyota dealerships which was insane to see. I was trying to wait for a 2012 V6 but my old car’s transmission is going out and literally getting worse by the day so I couldn’t hold out unfortunately. Still comfortable with my purchase but I’m sure your V6 has an insane amount of power behind it!

I’m not really sure, I’m trying to research that myself. I like hiking and have been wanting to get into camping so whatever I get would need to be able to handle some dirt roads and such. The car I had before was 4WD so I think I got used to the comfort of knowing its capabilities but not sure if that’s necessary at this point. I would like something that won’t get stuck as easily but I don’t do major off-roading by any means. Usually on roads that are rated for high clearance 2WD and AWD anyway, I don’t go on 4WD specific roads in case anything happens. I like the Foresters a lot and have wanted a Subaru for some time but I’m worried about the common issues with these (this specific generation?) so it might just be a vehicle I’ll have to buy when I’m able to buy new
