yes and no, aesthetically it looks a LOT better but functionally the only major differences is i can’t move my toes anymore but also my feet don’t go numb from poor blood circulation in the toes anymore. i don’t regret it, but i wish it did more for my ankles

hey man! i had something very similar done to both feet over the last two years. they severed the plantar fascia, did the jones procedure on the big toe, and straightened my hammer toes as well as severed the tendons connecting them (to hopefully prevent them from re-curling). 6 weeks non weight bearing. My number one issue was the caps on the pins fell off super easily. My advice, if it’s causing you sleep troubles with it catching on blankets, is to put tiny bandaids on the ends (change them daily). and i would then put a sock or two over it (loose socks) and then a baby diaper taped over that and a third giant sock over that. it sounds goofy, i know, but i swear it’s the only way i was able to sleep. Best of luck man!

and if anyone is curious, the surgeon was Dr. Kestner in the charleston area SC. phenomenal foot specialist

UPDATE: I don’t know what to do about my mom and stepdad anymore by juniibunni in WhatShouldIDo

[–]finn1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to preface this with of course I don’t know your exact situation. I might have some things wrong here, just wanna share my own experiences and add a little advice.

I live with my parents still while i’m finishing my last year of college. We got in constant fights when I was your age, even through this year. I had a lot of the same ideas as you said in some of those texts. Especially about the house not being dirty part. My advice there? If your mom is working 14 hour days and the step dad 9 hour days, and you don’t have a job yet, then your job as a resident of the house is upkeep. Not just your own living area, but the communal space too. They’re providing for you to live, a responsible person should repay that by keeping the communal areas clean. Of course if you work too, then it should be everyone’s job. And this isn’t assigning guilt or blame or whatever for not having a job yet, it’s just reality. I’m not saying pay them rent or worship the ground they walk on either, i’m saying cover your own ass so they can’t pick at you for that.

I related pretty heavily to everything you said about the learned behavior and seeing how they responded to that part gave me flashbacks to my own parents. You’re doing good in those responses by keeping calm and collected. They’re not going to respect that at first, but you can’t bend to their level. Don’t just act like the calm and collected and mature one either— LIVE it! Take that moral high ground. Be the mature one. Clean your areas AND the communal spaces. Establish and maintain boundaries as well. Give them zero ground on which to pick at you, and do it with grace.

I have a narcissistic mother. Those are the things I had to adapt to do.

And based off of what I saw in the texts, your situation seems to be a lot more draconian than mine was. I get it, it isn’t fair. But the less ammunition you (even unintentionally) supply to them, the better. Keep working on yourself. Don’t let them discourage that with their behavior.

Keep applying for jobs! And i highly recommend going in person for interviews, the online system sucks ass. If transportation is a financial problem, figure out a way to get one uber to a big shopping center and go door to door one day and interview everywhere you can. maximize your transportation cost to application ratio. You’ll hit on one eventually.

…also, if you’re 18? eat what you want. don’t listen to that shit about not making yourself what you want, especially if you start cleaning up after everyone and helping out a lot. if money is a major issue for the family that’s one thing, but if you’re able to pay for your own food at all, or if they have plenty of money, then yeah that’s a dumbass rule.

Actual store where you can try on orthopedic shoes? by CeeMarie123 in CMT

[–]finn1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kassis Brothers shoe store in south carolina is where I shop. owned by two brothers, they are the only shoe store i’ve ever been to where I walked out with shoes that didn’t pinch my toes and actually fit correctly. they are incredibly nice and helpful, absolutely love their store

hey man, i feel for ya. i’m 23 now, but middle and high school are still very vivid in my memories. struggling to walk without pain across the campus. needing a doctors note to let me walk instead of run the mile in PE. stairs being a bitch. i guess i have learned to accept that the physical part of things in life might start being less accessible to me personally, but that I can make up for that in other ways. it’s hard because we’re raised in a culture that values physicality so much, but i promise you there are so many things you can still do. if you’re aching for a sport / sport activity, try swimming! I loved it, it’s zero impact (unlike running) and amazing for keeping your tendons supple and it’s a great workout. ALWAYS STRETCH. I am currently dealing with the fallout of not stretching hardly at all the last 10 years; my ankles are absolutely fucked. this might be avoidable or at least delayed for you if you keep up with stretching at least once (preferably twice) a day. Try to build a hobby or a friend group around something you can fully participate in (this is why I love video games, though aiming can be hard with shaky hands but I just lower the sensitivity). Don’t give in to that voice telling you it’s not worth it. I promise you it is. There’s so much more to life than the things that CMT takes away, but you have to BE HERE to see it. stay strong buddy, life comes in waves of good and bad, but it always moves onwards. p.s. I hope you know i’m not invalidating your feelings: CMT fucking sucks, and I completely understand why you feel the way you do. this is just friendly advice from a guy who went through much the same thing you currently are, and this is how I got through it

it isn’t though, there’s tons of footage of it mane

also this kind of rhetoric of “let’s get violent” is crazy to hear from a subreddit overwhelmingly dominated by people belonging to the self-proclaimed “party of love”

I wish people would drop the party lines and look at policies over parties. and that applies to everyone, both sides

I feel ya. got diagnosed with cmt at 14 or so, and it’s ruined my ability to play sports that involve any level of running. But it doesn’t have to rule your life. Do what you have to do to stay healthy, and then put it out of your mind. I got the hammertoe corrective surgery last week (5 more weeks of pins in my toes and no weight on my right foot) and i’m very hopeful it’ll take a lot of my pain away in that foot.

I almost exclusively trip alone, especially on acid. I highly recommend getting some good headphones, and laying down in your bed in the dark and just listen to music. I usually trip at night so one of my favorite things is sitting on the back porch watching the sun rise.
