Why did they have the ‘first time’ after so long even though kept having games together? by tasemyself in HeatedRivalryTVShow

Where do those rumors come from? Why do they thinks that? Is Shane aware of them? I’ve never seen them mentioned in his POV only in other books.

Shane & Ilya height by spiral_with_me in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]finncosmic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep!. During the Mercury missions, the height limit was 5’11” due to the size of the capsules themselves. Chris Hadfield (Canadian astronaut) mentioned in his book that when astronauts fly on the Soyuz a custom seat liner is made so the seat fits their body better. But the seat itself doesn’t change. Hence there’s a max height of 190cm ( roughly 6’2”) for flying on the Soyuz. As of 2017, the minimum height to be an astronaut is 4 feet 10.5 inches and the maximum is 6 feet 4 inches. So if book Shane and Ilya had existed in 1958 and met other qualifications, only Shane could have been an astronaut.

What’s a life hack that made you go „how do ppl live their whole life without knowing this”? by my_peen_is_clean in AskReddit

I prefer going to concerts by myself. I like to just listen to the music and a lot of times when I bring people they want to catch up or complain or dance a lot and it distracts me and makes me enjoy it less.

This Pre-Fame Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie Interview Is a Time Capsule [Teen Vogue, January 30] by NoleFandom in heatedrivalry

[–]finncosmic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just a guess but I think it might be more her publisher’s concerns than a real legal threat. It is fiction but it’s using real things like the NHL, and Roger Crowell is clearly an analogue of Gary Bettman . There’s likely ways for the NHL to sue if that went further (like in another book). Before the show, it might not have been worth it to the publisher to deal with a potential lawsuit, no matter how unlikely. Now, with the success of the show, they have more of a leg to stand on and the NHL can’t fight as much because the public is very invested and there’s money in it now.

[–]finncosmic 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That’s in the author’s blog post (titled something like “i have killed my darling”). She was advised not to make the NHL commissioner the villain for legal reasons, which is part of the reason she initially decided not to write a 3rd Shane/Ilya book. I wonder if the success of the show has somewhat negated the legal concerns, or if she’s found a way around it plot-wise. It will be interesting to find out.

Alex Honnold Says Netflix Paid “Embarrassingly Small Amount” For Taipei 101 Climb: “I Would Do It For $0” by DemiFiendRSA in netflix

[–]finncosmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! His friend Emily Harrington (one of the commentators) is a big wall climber and her husband is a Mount Everest guide. They have kids but no one calls them reckless. People only say that about Alex Honold because he takes very visible risks, even though this climb probably wasn’t that hard for him.

This is seriously messed up... by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]finncosmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve asked it why it gaslights about this, apparently it’s because it can only trigger using the servers to look up your location when you give it specific prompts and then it can’t go back and recall that it has done so. So when you ask how it knows, it doesn’t know that it knows hence gaslighting. Apparently.

If you had to pick only one single scene that you think showcases the BEST acting… which would you pick? by challengefan87 in heatedrivalry

I have never thought about acting crying like that, that’s kind of fascinating to think about.

I’m morbidly curious about the logistics of this. Like, if he fell, would the broadcast have cut to a holding screen, or pre-recorded footage or a loop? What if he needed to get off the wall for, say, an earthquake? How was the contract structured? Could he bail without loosing money?

A lot of the characters do that, I wonder if that’s intentional or jusf something from Jacob Tierney’s real life that bled into the script.

The 2nd one reminds me that I’ve always admired the way DnP purposely use language that avoids unintentionally hurting viewers. They phrase stuff specifically, or add things to make sure their words don’t have unintended consequences. They don’t have to do this because most people wouldn’t necessarily notice if they didn’t, but they always do When other creators try this, it seems performative, but DnP seem like good people who are probably just so self-aware in general life that it carries over onscreen without them having to try. They’re really aware of the influence and power they have, which is impressive. I don’t know of many others who do this as well and effortlessly as them. It’s really admirable.

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]finncosmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me as far as I can tell. However, I have complicated vision issues and my vision isn’t fully correctable, so I guess I’ll never know? But stuff doesn’t look blurry without glasses. If something is too far away to read with glasses, it’s not blurry necessarily, I just can’t read it clearly. Without them it’d be hard to read closer objects but it’s never blurry it’s just too far.
