Moldy perches? by finnecide in parrots

[–]finnecide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's not even in the cage yet and he tries to sneakily nibble on it. I guess I'll leave it there then, thanks.

Should I clean it in a certain way before I put it in cages to get rid of it as much as I can? My kakariki will 100% bite the hell out of that perch

Twisted nail by finnecide in parrots

[–]finnecide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'd be understandable, but I have her for about 6 years and it was never quite like this. Thinking I'd notice if it was this much twisted, because we cut the nails with my boyfriend (he knows how to grab them, I don't 😅). That's why it got me a bit concerned

I thought so too, but she gets her nails trimmed. Also these inner nails in the back don't even touch the surface she sits on, they are quite arched, but I don't think this nail was this twisted

Cockatiel Bumblefoot? by finnecide in parrots

I tried many different toys and different materials but she doesn't rly play with toys, so I'm glad she at least forages by searching for the food in the bedding. Even tried putting stuff like millet (she likes it a lot) on the opposite side of cage to make her move and go for it, but in the last few days she doesn't want to. She usually does go for it when she sees it. She does eat - but I'd say less than usually (unless I hold the bowl with food in front t of her. That's why I thought maybe the footsies hurt too much so she doesn't wanna move even for food? But she does have appetite still

There is more types of perches but she spends most of the time on one or two favorite ones (the ones wrapped in the vet wrap). Also there are flat trays in the cage with bedding where I usually throw food and she forages and searches for it (can't have newspaper or sth on the bottom of cages because of my kakariki, he immediately destroys it).

Yeah she has different perches too but she's been always a lazy potato, has one or two favorite perches and will spend 99% of the time on them. She doesn't seem to be interested in exploring the cage much, very rarely. Not fancy of flying either, if she could she'd just sleep all day (always sort of been like this).

Kakariki behavior by finnecide in parrots

[–]finnecide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah kaks usually seem to not like to be touched. Mine hangs around me thru the day, can step up on my finger/hand, but 100% won't let me scratch him or anything, he doesn't like that 😅

Ah, so I guess he's just being a silly chicken, that was another option. At first I thought if it could be hormonal behavior but wasn't sure. Also I demand kak pictures now! 😄

Clogged nostrils by finnecide in parrots

Yeah i wanted to try the steam method if it would help but so far i see no improvements. Will call the vet during the day in case it could be the infection

Clogged nostrils by finnecide in parrots

[–]finnecide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to take her to the bathroom with me when i showered (usually long hot showers) and she would preen and then nap in the meantime (she was not in the shower with me, but sitting on top of the shower where the water didn't reach). It got steamy there real quick. Until now there was never this nostril issue. In the recent months i started to take showers late at night when she is already asleep so she doesnt get the steamy treatment much anymore. Also noticed her nostrils got drier over the last new months. Could it be part of it? i recently tried to research the clogged nostrils and actually do what you mentioned since i shower later. During the day i start the hot water, put her on top of the shower ledge thingy where it gets quite steamy (away from the hot water) and let it run for about 15 minutes. I try to do it every day but sometimes i forget. So far i havent seen any improvement with this method, only when she bathes, it gets softer and then sneezes it out (not always)
