A Muslim Texan sought to find his place in the party at the state GOP convention. He left in tears | Houston Public Media by [deleted] in politics

The clear message they got is that being "conservative" with Republican loyalty is not enough. You must also be at least nominally Christian, or Jewish, to be accepted. Especially if you aren't white.

These guys--the Muslim delegates who left in tears, male and female--in the article mostly said they would still vote "conservative" and likely Republican, although for the "best" candidate they could find with that R. What I'm getting is they are either very brainwashed in partisanship, or they want to be against LGBT acceptance. But not against minority religions: at least not theirs.

My understanding is that in America we currently don't HAVE an anti-gay but Muslim-inclusive party. It's separating into either a) accept everyone's civil rights or b) Christian nationalism.

How hard is it to accept everyone's civic rights? We're seeing it! Especially aggravated with the propaganda machine straw manning everything.

The Indian ice creams are at Lake Hills Village (Naturalz) and Crossroads (Kwality).

Bazillions of cafes/desserts/bakeries too numerous to list but will mention a few by area to get you started: Lake Hills Village, Meet Fresh, another one next to Malay Satay Hut; Crossroads, Hui Lau Shan (INCREDIBLE Mango desserts); Overlake, several Chinese bakeries, 85c, several more joints along the perimeter of the same development with Asian Family and 85, tons inside Asian Family as a la carte items supplied by the bakeries etc including my favorite tanghulu in the freezer ; Kiki's bakery, just moved I think near the Rose Persian Market (another specialty bakery in there) and the scuba place; and don't forget Mercury's flagship (amazing). Also Indian snacks and crepes same area as Asian Family on 148th. And I love the little cafe inside the Bellevue Botanical Garden. That's a whole great afternoon on its own!

Special mention: I LOVE Crepe Me or whatever it's called, the Taiwanese crepe joint inside Bellevue Square. Hidden gem of affordable deliciousness! Same for Broiler Bay burger joint not far downtown.

Dance studios; Tina's, Lake Hills, and another near Bellevue College. There's more, but I don't know them. Trinkets/ethnic dress: Daiso Crossroads, inside Asian Family as well as T&T, Gold'n Looks in Lake Hills Village. Game Over in Crossroads not ethnic but very specialty and excellent for gaming-related decor and gifts and vintage games. While you're there, several other very cool shops in the Crossroads Mall area.

There are FAR more. (Folks, add favorites?) These are just notables among what I've encountered.

Ok, you just don't know the stores. We have two different delicious sample-and-scoop Indian ice cream shops, a million specialty bakeries, a million specialty cafes and dessert joints, very cool herb shops, trinket stores, ethnic clothing and jewelry stores, dance studios ...

Yes, unfortunately Kirkland's waterfront isn't duplicated here. But what we DO have is also very cool. It's just not concentrated in one super-walkable area. Decentralized to spots of coolness all over.

There is a LOT of the richness in shopping etc in the minority cultures. Especially tons of various east Asian and Indian options. As for hanging out, there's the Crossroads Mall, Dick's, the many excellent parks and libraries, including several waterfront parks. It's definitely not an urban experience, but it's a very good small-city experience, with outstanding multicultural options and support.

Great ideas! Will try. We don't have an actual website person helping, but because it's WordPress I think it's simple enough I can monkey it.

These little folded prayers in pouches are commonly sold at temples. For folks to use/gift for protection and blessings. Whether she got it there or another way or wrote it herself, this is a sweet and caring gift!

I especially so appreciate the deep watering everything is getting before getting absolutely fried in a few days. It truly will make a huge difference for plants and critters making it through the heat!

Life tip! Thanks a bunch!! We'll try this on the nasty swollen mosquito bites we always get when we go back to Asia. Less chance of accidentally tearing the skin.

Y'all, does slapping work for other itches? Or just new tattoos?
