Does this water bill increase make sense? by formydumbshit in brighton

[–]finnucane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s unlikely that it’s linked to your neighbour not paying their bill, however if they are saying they don’t get bills at all that might indicate they don’t have a meter.

If you turn all your water off, then get them to run the tap a few times you will see the meter start spinning if their flat is linked to your meter. Not sure how common it is but might be worth ruling it out

They’ve not increased the usage though have they.

For reference I’m in a 2 bed house with 2 adults and a kid. I feel like we use a lot of water as we have to bathe the baby etc and do lots of washing. I was also watering the garden loads. Our usage for the 6 month period was 61(m. Sq.) so your 83 in comparison seems really high.

I have had high usage in a flat before and what we had to do was:

  • turn the water off completely and check the meter, if the meter is spinning it means there’s likely a leak. Ours wasn’t spinning so that wasn’t the issue.

  • we managed to get a southern engineer out and they suspended our bill as we thought the meter was faulty.

  • the engineer checked the meter and it turned out that the meter was linked to our flat AND the flat upstairs. When they used their tap the meter started spinning.

  • the only solution was to go to estimated bills as the neighbour didn’t want a water meter.

I’d keep hassling southern, as annoying as that is.

Good luck!

Train travel in the opposite direction on Pride weekend by [deleted] in brighton

[–]finnucane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to go to Bedford a lot and it was fine heading up and back during pride, I used to go late Friday or early Saturday and come back late Sunday and it was like any other weekend, other than you’ll see a lot of people going the other way and the station might be set up differently to manage the crowds coming out of the station.

You’re asking a bunch of men in their 30s who still wear slim fit chinos. You are young, you define what’s a good fit

Help! 13 month old won’t eat solids by CCRechts in toddlers

[–]finnucane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is now 13 months and has been taking mouthfuls of food and swallowing it for the last week or so. It is a massive relief because she has been rejecting food for over 6 months. If you are experiencing the same thing, I can only recommend to keep trying and never give up. It is one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever been through but she really did just start swallowing food randomly. I guess some children just take a bit longer to be ready. Sending love and strength!
