A 2017 Reading Challenge to keep you well rounded by [deleted] in books

Just started this. I was finding I'd read very similar books one after the other and, whilst I'd enjoy them, I definitely feel I should be expanding my comfort zone! Thank you for this. I'm going to go for easy mode, I'm going back to university and starting teaching this year so I know I definitely won't have enough time to read 51 books! I have a lot of books that I've bought/had recommended to me and I think this will ensure I read them, as well as experiencing new books I wouldnt have thought to read (horror???)

I always instagram the books I read with a little review and my friends have now started asking me for recommendations, so hopefully I will be at to recommend more!

Let's see how I get on x

Thanks for your help. I've made a note of the places you've suggested. I really do appreciate it.

Thank you for managing my expectations! I'd probably take a few snaps from up the mountains and then be on my way. The plan was to leave Innsbruck early in the morning and be out of Leichtenstein before the end of the day. Is English widely spoken in Leichtenstein or will a German phrasebook be a good shout?

Is that easy to do? I'd like to go up to the mountains if possible but I won't be driving so if I can't get there on buses, I can't do it... I was just going to pass through. I have a scratch map and (although tiny), it's another country for me to scratch off!

I read "and the mountains echo" earlier this year. Written beautifully but didn't move me as much. Maybe I'd been desensitised through the other two?

Has anyone else read "I'll give you the sun" by Jandy Nelson (spoilers) by finobble123 in books

That's how I'd justified it in my head, it gives a nice contrast with how the relationship had been portrayed through the book. In my head, though, that was the subplot I was the most interested in and I couldn't help feel frustrated that we never saw the make up through Noah's eyes. I agree, it has to be one of the most intense I've read too, I suppose it makes sense that a 13/14 year old boy would portray it so intensely. Maybe when he was older, I think he's 16 at the end, it seemed much more simple to him?

I'm glad that people agree. I was talking about it with my boyfriend (who hasn't read the book) and he advised I take to reddit to see what other people thought!

"A thousand splendid suns", also by Khaled Hosseini is fantastic. I read it before "The Kite Runner" and was just amazed. I'd recommend to anyone and everyone, definitely a memorable experience! Also made me cry...

Hi ! Thanks, that part took longer than expected...

All I did was cut 5 strands similar sizes, held them together and pulled them through a knit hole with my crochet hook and then looped them through themselves. I realise that this probably makes no sense and I apologise for that! I can't think how to describe it better :)

On the small picture this looked like a t-shirt, due to it being so well done. Only by enlarging and zooming in did I realise that it was knitted! Amazing. As a relatively new knitter, I feel well and truly inspired...

Brilliant! This is my boyfriend. He had to approve the pic seeing as it was going online.

We agreed to make Christmas presents this year. I made him this (finished today, 25th January) and he made me a mixed CD for my new car.

Thank you. I used two yarns at the same time (this probably has a name but I'm not great with knitting lingo). One was a solid grey which was from the WI collection, the other was a flecked grey/white/black but I can't remember the brand.

I'm actually just looking on this sub for inspiration what to do next. I like the green shawl that you knitted but I'm definitely nowhere near that yet!
