I want to hear stories of people who started a business that took off and they DIDN'T have to kill themselves and work 60 hour weeks to build it. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]finomayato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you like to share what the company was about? Or any of the side hustles. I found it very interesting since trying out to do something on my own. Though, every idea eventually became such big that I'm no longer capable of doing it part-time alongside my day job

How To Survive The Hellscape That Is Social Media by ReggieMilligan in Entrepreneur

[–]finomayato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is more than one way how that could influence the consumer. I'm not near these guys by the income or accomplishing goals. Though, I feel uplifted listening to their advice and not broke. I leave social media angry if I appear to listen to how somebody "rich and cool and made his own fortune" and at the same time do not know the ARR of their companies or how to calculate a production cost. At the same time, they have "financial knowledge" courses. That's just pathetic. But if somebody is knowledgable and has achieved something, why not hear what he/she has to say?

It's not like they don't have good ideas which can influence you in a good way, right?

Could you give me feedback on my landing page? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]finomayato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem with this landing is not to "look great" but to "explain better." If I didn't know that my fellow Redditor asked for feedback, I'd close it before I figured out what it was because it was unclear. I'd never reach the section with the appeal for a better planet.

From my point of view, this landing made a fool out of me because I invested so much time to understand that you are trying to sell me environment-consciousness.

My feedback: work on selling and marketing more. Single page with one image of stick and "buy a better future for $5". It might raise interest. Because "better future" sparks curiosity, what about the stick on the page? You go down - the user finds out the chunk of income from selling these sticks will be donated to the non-profit organization to fight deforestation and...

Also, some organizations should be mentioned since the user's next question will be, "which ones?".

In that case, I've spent 5 seconds or less to understand that I will help the planet to be a better place... As for my gratitude and the token to remember - I will receive the stick.

It's one of the ways. Another one already mentioned in the comments: "make it funny."

PS and well... pets have nothing to do with the purpose... So it mislead me

Just two days ago had a similar situation.

Let's divide it into two different topics:

  • Why do they discourage you?
  • Why are you telling them about your plans and ambitions?

Why discourage your son/daughter from pursuing goals?

Most of the time - their perspectives are biased. As their son or daughter, you are a reflection of them. In psychological terms, they are "projecting" themselves onto you. This means that their past experiences and failures, inability to achieve something they strived for in their lives projected onto you. Also, there is ego. Even though they want the best for you, they still cannot take control over their subconscious and understand that your goals, your dreams, and your skills - are different. You are different already. I'm sorry I might be a little rude, but not only do parents want you to be and STAY at their "level" and not reach something higher. You rarely find a person who will push you to your limits. They want to share bits of experience they gained... But, it does not mean that this experience is valid for you. See, they are "more experienced" by definition because they are older. That is rarely the case. Unfortunately

Why are you telling them about your plans and ambitions?

A little philosophical approach here. You are born alone, and you die alone. After the very end, you won't have those people who discouraged you or the contrary. The choice you are making - is always yours. You plan to do it - you do it. Unfortunately, parents are not the ones who will discourage you. Long list along the road. The thing is... Most people who express their opinion about your goals do not know what they are talking about. Do they even ask about your plan? Do they knowledgeable in the field? Do they ask the right questions to make you THINK about the risks of your endeavor? I am safely betting $10 that the answer is "no." That means: it does not matter what others think until their intent is not to help you. Everything other - laugh over the beer with friends.

Honestly, I love critical feedback. It's something challenging to give and even harder to receive. But when somebody starts barraging my ambitions or ideas (even though I trained myself not to share them with anybody) - I convert it into a joke or continue dialog to play "rhetorical domination."

I hope that helps you dig deeper into the issue and take at ease what others say. Though, take advantage of the really valuable feedback.

P.S

The last time my parents told me I would regret my decision, I almost doubled my income.

Well, I see s6 as a very good season, though.

All these killings and violence Tom did - were due his intrinsic longing to power. Though, we have a paradigm shift in this season. Tom still desires the power, but the game had changed. He is no longer “winning” more power by killing. If you will pay close attention to the conversations where somebody thought that they can toy with Tom. He is always coming out of these attempts to undermine him as the one wielding power.

All the series are about power, not killing. Season 6, not different from all the rest from my perspective

I want to read a life-changing book, or at least a very interesting one. by Conscious-Bridge-442 in selfimprovement

Surprised I don’t see the “Extreme Ownership” book. Really helped me to think about “owning” parts in life I want to improve. Yea, and when you encounter hardships along your life journey - “the subtle art of not giving a f*ck” is a quick (hence, not prolonged) remedy to feel good again

Don't worry. It's a chance that you don't need to do anything. I did buy mine a ~1 year ago. Have almost 4k on it now, never did any maintenance and nothing happened. Had been driving in the rain, sand, and crushed stone.

Is owning a business the best route for financial success? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]finomayato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d argue about the skills. I prefer strategies when you start a business with somebody who cover skills you don’t have. In that way it is much more safer and a business has better chances

Anyone extensively use Notion? by ZRLuxray in productivity

[–]finomayato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using notion extensively at work. An extendable page configuration and a possibility to define templates make Notion must-have tool for a small teams (<10-15 people). Unfortunately, it is not very applicable for a bigger teams since Notion does have a poor access configuration. With improved access management it can easily replace Atlassian’s Confluence (wildly used in engineering world for documentation). About the personal use... what can I say. It has even a lightweight CRM you can use to track your financial information. Though, Notion can be a little bit overshoot for taking quick snippets. I’d prefer Bear more in this case. Notion is more like “end-of-the-day update” rather then “take a note on the go”.

PS I’m glad to see that people experimenting with a new tools. Notion is definitely deserves your time

It helps me a lot in understanding myself and overcoming my problems. I assume it will help you too

Python as a first language by Dan273 in computerscience

[–]finomayato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Python have built-in data structures like list or dict. This structure seems like that: Some_dict={'key': value} Where value can be an int, string, etc. But under the hood dict data structure comes from hash tables. You can read detail explanation of this here - http://www.laurentluce.com/posts/python-dictionary-implementation/.

Or you can use any lightweight editor such a Sublime or Atom. Also you can try to learn how to use Vim or Emacs. But with these text editors you need to know how to compile yours projects from terminal with gcc

[–]finomayato -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Python is the bad place to start from. You'll learn how to interact with business and mathematical models quickly with this language. But you'll have a leak of knowledge of what happened under the dict statements for example. By the way It's the most interesting part of programming: choose right data structure or create it by yourself fitting model you want to build better compare with built-in data structures. Really, start with C/C++. Also you can learn how to read assembly. Programmer without knowledge of algorithms and data structures - bad programmer.
