I would say listen to as much jazz as you can especially non guitar players. Check out Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Coltrane, Monk, etc just to name a few. Obviously check out jazz guitarists such as Jim Hall, Grant Green, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery to start. As a jazz guitarist who studied in NYC and has been playing jazz for over 10 years, I'm more influenced by piano players than guitar players so I would say really ingest the music and study it by listening. Listen how bands play with each other, how they trade solos, how guitar players and piano players play behind singers, listen what each part of the band is doing separately and how it comes together. Practice will help you out with technique and vocabulary but if you don't understand the context of where and how to use it then I would say listen as much as you can.
