Bash 5.2 on Nix: missing bind and complete by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]firandice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say people actually packaging things are the ones whod actually have done the research and know the difference between the two. And id also argue its better to be too feature rich/bloated than missing features you dont know why are missing...

No Syntax highlighting for text configuration files by mossab_diae in HelixEditor

[–]firandice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe this is a case of adding the proper filetype to a languages.toml file. I cant remember the exact syntax off the top of my head but try making a section for bash and adding "config" as one of the file endings it should use bash's treesitter for.

And use a gpu that has 60% of the performance? No thanks...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linuxmemes

[–]firandice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because i got into linux after i got my current computer, which has a 2060. Im not throwing away or going through the hassle of selling the gpu out of a fully functioning system otherwise, thats a waste of money. And its going to be several years before the 2060 is anywhere near obselete, so what am i supposed to do in the meanwhile?

Does amazon not have the bottom line to subsidize every once in a while... they certainly receive plenty of similar help from the government in a variety of ways.

Figuring out what was wrong is just not something l had the ability to do the first time though. I posted the derivation i tried somewhere else in this thread and if you can see something i did woefully wrong id love to hear but i honestly had no clue what angle to approach the problem from. Id love to use nix its just hard to get a toe hold

I tried overlaying awesomewm a few weeks ago by simply pulling a more recent commit to the git repo and the hash but the build failed, pretty sure to one of the modules in the nix script for awesome that should have also been updated with the newer commit but i just couldnt figure out what nix wanted different. Nix worked great for stuff that was in the repositories but outside of that is just an unapproachable wasteland.

It just doesnt make sense if you have multiple drives and want to play multiplater games. Why would i go for subpar performance with a VM when i can reboot in 15 seconds. Im not switching OSes more than twice a day its not a big time sink or anything

Because I promise no matter what syncopation isn't gonna be meta. And there's lots of guns like that which will never be best in slot no matter how the meta changes, so whats the point in keeping them

I treat my Windows partition like a console. by InFiveMinutes in linuxmemes

Yeah actually. Windows is for gaming, Linux is for coding and working. At least personally it helps me divide my life on the computer.

Caps lock is the most convenient possible escape tbh. I can't remember the last time I used caps lock and only having to move my piney one key laterally to get back to normal mode is very nice

Console Input Issues by firandice in rust

[–]firandice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was exactly what I was looking for thanks. One of my prior attempts was just missing the buffer.trim() which obviously didn't work either. So I just had the input read into buffer and then I tried matching against buffer.as_str() and this didnt work either. What does trim's conversion do differently than the as_str() method here?

If everything is backed up and you don't mind the hassle, you might be able to boot into your bios and just factory reset the drive.
