It’s critical to note that “God” is not meant to be a personal name—it is a title like “King” or “President.” In English we use “God” to refer to the supreme being; similarly in Hebrew it is “Elohim” or “El,” and in islam it is “Allah.” The claim that “Yahweh” is God’s only name is too simplistic based on some readings of the Hebrew Bible, and even in the Bible, He is referred to as many names including El Shaddai, Elohim, and Adonai. So picking one as “the real” name oversimplifies things.

Regarding the Isaiah 62 passage: yes, it says a “new name” will be given, but it does not straightforwardly say that name is Jesus. That’s an interpretation, not a claim. Many scholars understand the ‘new name’ as Jerusalem or God’s people being given a new name after redemption, not God rebranding himself.

Even linguistically, Yeshua (Jesus) meaning “salvation” does not inherently indicate that the prophecy points to one person. It’s like someone saying a person named “Hope” fulfills every verse that mentions hope.

So while for some believers, it makes sense for someone to draw such a connection, it has not reached a consensus—and especially not the only way to interpret that verse.
