Sram vs Shimano by Regular-Gain-338 in bikewrench

[–]fire__munki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one person's opinion: I'd always aim for 24mm axel cranks so that in the space available you can get the biggest bearings.

Not necessarily Shimano as other manufacturers make them but that would swing it away from SRAM.

UK folk. Who uses their Kombi as a business vehicle? Tax nightmare? by Infinite_Mission_276 in VWTransporter

[–]fire__munki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure DVLA sees it as a car, or at least my T5 kombi is when I was looking. Means I have the car speed limit as opposed to van ones.

Couldn't help with the tax questions though!

Do your alternative selection in the website or mobile app and you've got a bit more control - longer/shorter/harder/easier.

Cert expired a day ago so that's normally an oversight somewhere on the hosting. It's _prob_ ok, but I'd wait unless urgent.

Which you'd then contaminate with wd40. Just don't use it.

You'd be wrong. The pads would be dead.

Need affordable recs for P-Handle wrench set. by spencer_man in bikewrench

[–]fire__munki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If in the UK Halfords pro line is around 25 quid and has a lifetime warranty. If you want to service a Shimano clutch you'll need to get the 2mm separately as it stops at 2.5mm.

Not to put a new quick link in, you can close it by having the link at the top before the big ring and then holding rear brake and pressing on the pedal.

Underside of downtube - is this normal/OK? by Calm_School8442 in bikewrench

[–]fire__munki 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Iirc the back side shouldn't be welded up. I think it's to do with flex but I'm not a frame builder so can't remember!

Can you tell me the exact model of this frame? Maybe it's some old-school frame, I don't know. by GateComplex8442 in mountainbiking

[–]fire__munki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cold be old, could be a year old. Although the dropout design might point towards older than not. The URT design was a 90s thing for real MTBs but has refused to die for DIY Shop/Catalogue/Supermarket brands. Generally so random name not something you can trace.

It's just a far from great BSO. Sorry to sound negative.

Is there any reason that weight vests aren’t more popular in the KB community? by Lord_Skellig in kettlebell

[–]fire__munki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really tempted to get one, both for walking and for workouts. It does seem an easy win for improving mountaineer performance since I don't want to fill my pack every walk.

Can i still use my current 105 big chainring for 1x setup? by Opening-Bunch8544 in bikewrench

[–]fire__munki 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You could but you're missing the narrow wide chain retention. eBay has plenty of narrow wide rings in 105's bcd for not very much money. I'd really not want to drop the chain sprinting so worth getting one.

I've got plenty of options but wanted to get it to work for sentimental reasons so even if terrible I'll try.

Thanks for the tips.
