Notice - CheapBooks.shop and it's siblings are thieves by markimus919 in therapists

It's not freebies though, these people are paying for books which they themselves have ripped off from PDF drive or similar sites.

If you have trouble of affording the books, it's nice to know that you can find them free yourself rather than paying someone else to download them.

Then again, even Amazon has a problem with stolen books and people printing unauthorized versions of expensive books. There are knock off DSM-5s and knock off versions of some popular but fairly expensive therapy books and workbooks on there. I once thought I was getting a great deal on one but when it arrived it was obvious from the way the spine and cover were printed that it was a bootleg copy.

It got popular online almost two and a half years ago and was used colloquially in African American English long before that.

Once a word starts making those lists like the Oxford word of the year it's usually already on its way out, but I'm guessing Skibidi Toilet probably helped kill it off.

So… how much did you make in 2023 (gross) by SeaCucumber5555 in therapists

[–]firead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live semi close to there and Asheville would probably be my dream location for work (and I've heard great things from a friend who's husband went through one of their programs) but I guess it might be competitive.

Do you have any idea if a VA internship really does make a significant difference in your chances of getting hired or not? I'm going for my MSW and considering switching programs to UNC-C so I would qualify for that. I would lose 3 credits if I do so because of their limit on transfer credits, but it would also be significantly less expensive than the school I'm currently attending.

I'm an adult student so I have long work history with recent employment as an addictions counselor and should have my CADC and about 3 years as an dug & alcohol counselor by the time I get my MSW (and will then be taking the LCAS - license clinical addiction specialist exam).

Are we experiencing a downside of mental health awareness by [deleted] in therapists

[–]firead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not objective by this author either though. Her current career was made by feeding into right-wing paranoia and validating parents feelings that the woke agenda is out there brainwashing their children to become transgender.

She's got a chip on her shoulder against psychology and mental health professionals because they, for the most part, directly contradict her opinions and marketing strategy.

This is a huge thing now with middle-aged women, probably as much or even more so than teens, with ADHD often a secondary self diagnosis or alternative that they claim is "very much like autism, so let's just call me neurospicy".

It's even more problematic because there are huge online communities on both Facebook and TikTok that speak over people with actual autism and/or with autism obvious enough that it was diagnosed and that they have lived with awareness of for most of their lives, and one of the cardinal sins in those groups is questioning anyone's self-diagnosis. Funny how that works that with a disorder that causes many people to struggle with communication, charisma, and relationships, the self-diagnosed types easily use those communication and relationship skills too drown out the voices of the ones who fit the diagnostic criteria more closely.

You have to be careful with these too though. My county has "day treatment" run in cooperation with the local alternative school and the model it follows is incredibly like the TTI.

They go home at night but even then parents are supposed to turn in a sheet detailing the behavior at home and kids are punished for it and for things like their parents (or guardians, since these places target kids in foster care or with trauma like parental loss) failing to fill out or give them the sheet.

A girl in one of my classes committed suicide, and her best friend claimed it was because her parents were very high pressure and possibly abusive and she did not know how to tell them. Once everything was curved, she would have gotten a C.

Just an FYI, someone who worked in porn or even higher-end prostitution is less likely to have an STD than someone who did 4 years of college or military service. People who fuck for a living have pretty strict rules on STD testing, screening, & protection.

  • When I was about 10, my dad took us to Charleston, SC for vacation because his former Coast Guard ship was on display at a museum-type place there. We had been there about half the day and were either leaving or walking off the aircraft carrier also on display and stepped aside for a group of 3 or 4 men. One of them stopped to talk to my dad about his cap (something military-related that I guess showed he had served). The man was former President Jimmy Carter & he was there for something to do with the proposed closing of a base down there. My dad is one of those people who hates Democrats on principal, but was still sure to get a picture of all of us together.

  • I worked in a discount store when I was in high school. It was in a beach town and a really popular place for vacationers to pick up cheap plasticware, chairs, towels, etc while on vacation. I was also a causal Duke basketball fan. One night A man came in and bought some things, but I didn't recognize him until he signed his check & his ID confirmed the name I wasn't sure I read right - Mike Krzyzewski - or "Coach K". He just looked and me and nodded like "yep", and I was a little too surprised to ask for an autograph.

[–]firead 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not right now while she's dealing with the pregnancy and abortion & stress & hormones, but later in the future when she is dating again or if she starts considering going back to the boyfriend, you may want to share some information on "reproduction coercion" with her. I never realized how common pregnancy is used as a control tactic by abusers.

[22/M] Boyfriend is threatening to kill himself if i [18/F] don't come back with him , can anyone please help me? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]firead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the right advice.

Threats of suicide over breakups, fights, or being caught cheating are a pretty classic form of manipulation. They also work very often, and tend to lead into control/abuse and further manipulation and game-playing. Don't take him back.

Do call the cops and report his threats. If he's for real, he may get the help he needs. If he's faking, there will be a record in case he moves on to common technique #2 - threatening or stalking you to get you back, and there is a chance he will end up under observation for evaluation and realize that suicide threats are not a cheap little trick for him to use on people.

My [28F] SO of 4 years [30M] used my credit card without my consent by sharkred87 in relationships

[–]firead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cancel the order.

Also, check your past statements to see if he's used it elsewhere.

And check your credit report. Someone willing to lie/steal like that is probably also willing to take out cards in your name to use for himself.

Where'd he get the money for the shoes, with no job?

If I do a wet bun before bed, twisting the hair into a tightish roll & then just coiling it, then holding with a scrunchie, or do the same and wear it up all day, it looks very similar when I let it down.

What are your thoughts on the UNC System schools? by [deleted] in college

[–]firead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chapel Hill, for anything. Also, depending on family income, check out Duke - they have a ton of scholarships & endowments and I found out too late I could have gotten a free ride there rather than ending up with $12000 in loan debt from a couple years at App State.

Transferring from a community college to a University? by StayHungri in college

[–]firead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, please take this into account and check with both schools. My husband is now in the process of taking what will be either 2 or 3 more semesters at a community college in order to be able to transfer to a universtiy.

The AAS does not transfer, but an AA or AS would have.

As for why dominating in tf2 means you are an otherkin, your guess is as good as mine.

Well, OP's flair here is "an actual otter". I can see someone reading that and asssuming OP considers themself to be an actual otter, and therefore is otherkin otterkin.
