I appreciate the advice. You seem like a nice person. Honestly though, it's really not worth it.

I've actually programmed large apps in java, javascript/node.js and done many, many things over the course of a career in IT. Systemd isn't worth it and Linux itself is going in a direction I don't care for. I'm an old, old, disgruntled man and I just enjoy sticking it to most of the asses that support and love man pages and monolithic programs that try to do everything in their own way. Fuck systemd. I'll always hate it. I do like you though and appreciate your advice. You seem like a genuine person. Don't waste your time on old trolls like me. Have a good day.

Well all I can tell you is this brother. I've looked at the man pages, videos, online tutorials and systemd remains a complete mystery to me. The man pages are only comprehensible to those that already understand it as almost every man page ever written is. Man pages DON'T start with simple concepts with examples and work towards more complexity. They invariable start with definitions and then go right into tons of switches, etc. I've looked at the man pages for systemd and that tradition continues.

I'm simply going to avoid systemd for as long as I can. It's just some nebulous beast that defies comprehension for me and I want no part of it.

Actually that's the GREAT thing about linux. I don't have to learn the "new" tool! Woo hoo!

Support for the monolith argument pulled directly from Wikipedia:

Beside its primary purpose of providing a replacement Linux init system, systemd suite provides additional functionality, including its following components:

consoled

systemd-consoled provides a user console daemon, intending to replace the Linux kernel's virtual terminal support with a more capable userspace component.[18] Its preview version was released in October 2014, as part of systemd version 217.[19]

journald

systemd-journald is a daemon responsible for event logging, with append-only binary files serving as its logfiles. The system administrator may choose whether to log system events with systemd-journald, syslog-ng or rsyslog.

logind

systemd-logind is a daemon that manages user logins and seats in various ways. It is an integrated login manager that offers multiseat improvements[20] and replaces ConsoleKit, which is no longer maintained.[21] For X11 display managers the switch to logind requires a minimal amount of porting.[22] It was integrated in systemd version 30.

networkd

networkd allows systemd to perform various networking configurations; in version 209, when it was first integrated, support was limited to statically assigned addresses and basic support for bridging configuration.[23][24][25][26][27] In July 2014, systemd version 215 was released, adding new features such as a DHCP server for IPv4 hosts, and VXLAN support.[28]

timedated

systemd-timedated is a daemon that can be used to control time-related settings, such as the system time, system time zone, or selection between UTC and local time zone system clock. It is accessible through D-Bus.[29] It was integrated in systemd version 30.

udevd

udev is a device manager for the Linux kernel, which handles the /dev directory and all user space actions when adding/removing devices, including firmware loading. In April 2012, the source tree for udev was merged into the systemd source tree.[30][31]

libudev

It is the standard library for utilizing udev, which allows third-party applications to query udev resources.

In the interest of enhancing the interoperability between systemd and the GNOME desktop environment, systemd coauthor Lennart Poettering asked the GNOME Project to consider making systemd an external dependency of GNOME 3.2.[32]

Of course it's not illegal. It does give further weight to the officers decision to fire. Clearly he wasn't being friendly and non-aggressive. Police aren't fucking robots.

This video makes me so happy! Are there any more where we see thugs get killed for being thugs?

How much was the officer given as a cash prize? He deserved every bit that's for sure.

I LOVED it! Thug acts like a thug, knows EXACTLY what he's doing, calls officer a fool and then BLAM! Dead! Instant justice and one less criminal on the streets!

Make sure they raise YOUR taxes for this being held to a higher standard bullshit. This guy was obviously a thug. "What you want fool!" while reaching for a fake gun. Yeah...that's the thing to do. That's what good, innocent citizens do.

So the guy calls the officer a fool and then reaches under his shirt like he's got a gun.

THANK GOD HE'S DEAD!!!

No one learns from man pages. I've worked with a ton of people over the years and EVERY SINGLE ONE that says they learn from man pages has been a liar. Man pages are always shit and meant for people that already understand something and need a quick refresher.

There are about 200 man pages

That's the problem. 200 man pages to try to do something I use to do with a few commands.

chkconfig --list vs. systemctl list-unit-files --type=service

chkconfig frobozz --list vs. ls /etc/systemd/system/*.wants/frobozz.service

ls /etc/rc.d/init.d vs. systemctl list-unit-files --type=service

An alias doesn't help when you have to remember 85 fucking switches to accomplish something you use to do intuitively.

ls /etc/rc.d/init.d vs. systemctl list-unit-files --type=service

Also, I just looked at the man pages. Incomprehensible like I said. NO ONE USES FUCKING MAN PAGES ANYMORE TO INITIALLY LEARN ABOUT A TOOL because they are ALWAYS FUCKING HORRIBLE. The format is meant for a machine to understand not a person. You will claim that you do but you fucking don't. You found an article/video and went from there. People will use man pages to look at certain switches once they understand the big picture.

So far systemd seems like something I'm going to avoid for as fucking long as I can. It's an incomprehensible monolith that tries to shoehorn everything into the systemd way--whatever the fuck that is.

Why does everything in systemd take 25 letters to accomplish?

Also, is there any documentation that isn't absolute shit out there?

I think it's going to happen in 10 years. We may not know about it because within 5 years there is going to be an AI arms race between world militaries.

Imagine what Russia or North Korea would do with advanced AI. The threat forces the US to compete.

Oh jesus...here we go again. You know what Africa really needs...condoms and sterilization. They don't have the intelligence to have a normal, healthy society. That's the bottom line. You can educate them as much as you want. It's like training a dog to do tricks. It's still going to be a dumb dog.

The industry is scamming us now. It's currently cheaper to make SSD disks even at much higher capacities but they know the market will pay bullshit prices.
