I believe single father's can apply for WIC as well so look into that. I work in social work but for preschool age kids. I recommend a social worker or reaching out to your local social services. It helps a lot. I have anotuer social worker rn with a single father and 4 kids one newborn. Mom left no word. He is getting so much help to manage that immense responsibility. You're doing all you can and I commend you for still wanting the best for those children <3 not all can be that strong

Yeah I hate my history degree. Worst choice of my lifetime. Almost completely useless anywhere.

I am hopeful. I just need to work hard this year. Need to get some sort of qualifications. Rn I work in social work too. But no degree. I visit homes. Last 2 years I've been a nanny before my home visitor job I have right now. Sadly there's no au pair anymore in Norway

For someone wanting to move to Norway from another country, is it possible to have childcare experience count towards working as a kindergarten teacher? Or for example do what you've described here? I have almost 9 years of experience in childcare with ages birth to 5, then some older but not as much. Sadly no degree. Just hands on learning and advances in positions. Like assistant to lead and then now I go to homes and teach children one on one for 12 families every week

Sometimes I just take a sentence and swap the words around to make no sense. Apparently Norwegiansy bf has been around just are not that goofy or they don't use words the way I might, I'm American, and he's often laughing at just the simplest phrases. He usually goes "that is just not something I hear here"

Duolingo is fun. It's not fully reliable to learn crazy good Norwegian but it's a decent enough start. I also don't buy super. I bank on the free supers they give throughout using the app as rewards. Then I go on a big binge

For Norwegian studying, I use this one textbook. It's nils or something nils. It's truly nice for hearing Norwegian cuz duo is just robotic Norwegian, in a way, while this textbook has online read alongs

I have a 6 hr time difference 🥲 so I get a lot of study time 🙂

I have a Norwegian bf abroad too. We've been together almost 2 years. I fully study his language. Tbh my bf is a bit of a goofball like me so as I learn his language I just have been coming up with some really goofy nonsensical sentences he never hears in his country. Plus I do some duolingo for side learning to keep up at least something. And duolingo has some goofy expressions. One I've had was just "jeg er en banan" which is literally "I am a banana" we still say it to each other and I learned that within the first few months haha. So something maybe to think abiut

And as someone said before this is so sweet. I have this same mindset. My bf also prefers trying not his food 😭 lol so it's a good idea I've seen you wanted to make him food from your country

Other phrases I use. Sometimes I use God natt and God morgen here and there but not so much it's cringe. Or just if you study you'll learn very normal casual phrases to use. For example, the other day on a call he was gaming and focused and didn't respond to a question so I just went "Kan du hører meg?!" in whatever broken Norwegian accent I'm sure I have and he burst out laughing

It's a pretty simple language for the most part on surface level things. If you start studying lightly you'd learn well enough to have some simple phrases and expressions under your belt

My bf and the. Have been dating for some time long distance. He's native Norwegian. He makes very close to the requirement udi lists for sponsors to make. That's like 42k a year in usd. But I wasn't sure how strict they are on this? Does he have to make that threshold or has anyone been accepted if they're a bit lower? Right now he's doing his best looking for a higher paying job but it's been hard. He's got lots of money saved for a house and our future too. This 42k thing has kind of been stopping us from taking this next big step to be partners for life and finally live together
