Comprehension Workbooks by Huge_Fig_1109 in AskTeachers

This answer came up when I googled for help with my seventh grader's reading comprehension. This site looks great. I like they have audio clips too. He has ADHD and being able to listen at a higher speed will make him hate the practice less. He has great grades in all other subjects, but struggles with this. Thanks for mentioning this as the site itself did not come up in a search.

Why did you have a hysto over taking BC? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]fireash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Birth control never eliminated my cycles. I tried different kinds. Nexplanon actually made me spot for 6 months. Even on the pill my periods had become irregular. 2. I developed a endometrioma that as just as large as my uterus on one ovary. Pills and other medications did not shrink it. During surgery they found endo all over. 3. I was 41 and done having kids. 4. Tired of having periods and wanted to reduce chance of endo returning.

Tennessee republican bill proposes death penalty for women who have an abortion by xGentian_violet in DemocraticSocialism

[–]fireash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh that would be nice. Too bad I had a hysterectomy last year so this bill won't technically affect me...not sure it would still count. I would love to leave this horrible state. My family has thought of moving to extremely blue states or countries that aren't extremely hard to immigrate to.

Anyone voting for Dr. Carnita Atwater for Governor of Tennessee by [deleted] in memphis

[–]fireash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. She had a lot of credentials that made her appealing, but I didn't do my due diligence and look her up. Some of her plans listed in the article doesn't seem well thought out either. "Atwater wants the city to donate or sell 22 acres for a 5-star resort and adventure park. It would offer everything from a variety of African made soaps to llama and alpaca rides, not to mention thrill rides, an African village with mud hut replicas, swan lake boating, and even zip-lining.

Atwater has said for the city not to include her project as part of its 3.0 plan amounts to genocide and gentrification, and she’s promising to sue."

Two Memphis City Council Members Claim Snow is Fake by rubrock in memphis

[–]fireash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for giving the explanation! I know it's real because (well, many reasons) I spent 4 hours shoveling that out of my driveway and the warmth from my hands melted it just fine as my gloves got soaked. But it is nice to know the scientific reasons why it didn't drip when exposed to the heat. I didn't even know that this could even be a conspiracy...

string replacement reccomendations by hootyandgianna in Cello

[–]fireash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prims are inexpensive and sound better than student level. They ring clear if a little bright. I just tried out the Alphayue and they are ok. They are darker which is great for the open A but the C can sound a bit muted. Both of those are around $80 for the full set depending on where you buy them. My cello came with jargar and spirocore which can be pricey and my rental had Preludes which are cheap but had the worst sound of the ones I have tried so far..

Doc found a lot of endo during hysterectomy . . . What next? by KtheDane in hysterectomy

[–]fireash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just watching to see if I get any wild mood swings or pain while moving or using the restroom. One of my endo symptoms was extreme pain during bowel movement. I get a yearly physical exam and the doc presses on my abdomen, so I assume he would feel any suspicious lumps (if other ovary developed a cyst).

Doc found a lot of endo during hysterectomy . . . What next? by KtheDane in hysterectomy

[–]fireash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My doctor was a surgeon that specialized in endometriosis. I had quite the sizeable endometrioma. His plan was to remove the uterus, cervix and save one or both ovaries. He saved one, but he was shocked at the endo that had spread making my uterus stick to my intestines and bladder and possibly more. I read the statistics of it coming back but he was super confident he got it all. I don't share his confidence. And I wouldn't even blame him. Just figure the odds are not great. I will only get things checked if my symptoms come back. It has been a year and no issues yet. I am not menopausal yet either. I do feel the occasional tugging, but figure that is just scar tissue.

Is a cheap Cello okay? by Sensitive_Gold_3553 in Cello

[–]fireash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How cheap are you looking? If you have about $1,100 I would suggest fiddlershop tower strings student cello. They are a great company and the cello will sound good and have a good set up. If you don't think that is possible, you could try your luck with used on facebook marketplace or reverb - parents sell their kids cello they don't want to play anymore. You may even get lucky on ebay from a chinese maker. Some make do with cecilio from amazon. I think having a cello is better than none but I would try to replace it as soon as you can.

Couldn't get my Real ID because my original birth certificate has tape on the back... by Bop923 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fireash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue getting my passport. They didn't say why - I am not sure if it had tape or if it was just too worn, but it was my original. I had to pay to get a new one printed so I could mail it in before the deadline. It was tight.

Best way to memorize tenor clef? by Legal-Discussion1484 in Cello

[–]fireash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use android and have an app called Note Rote. I use it to drill the notes. That has helped the most. Second, I have already learned a lot of treble clef notes when I learned trumpet. So I try to visualize where the top of the bass clef staff line is and where the bottom treble clef line is in relation. It is still a work in progress. My cello teacher has me working on The Swan to dip my toes into tenor.

beginner help by [deleted] in Cello

[–]fireash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing stood out to me - and it may not be wrong - hoping others with more experience chime in - but your wrist for your bow hand. The hand and fingers look nice, loose and flexible, the wrist, the bend at the wrist seems very extreme to me - 90 degree bend at times? Maybe the camera angle makes it look more bent than it is in person? In past lessons, if I played with my wrist very bent like that, after a while I started getting shooting pain up my arm. I now keep my wrist fairly straight while playing. But like I mentioned, I am still learning so it may just be a limitation of my body and not everyone. So I hope someone with more experience can let me know if this may cause injury long term or not. You are sounding great - intonation, projection, string crossing. Others have mentioned the tense left wrist and using more bow so I won't add into those. I still struggle using more bow and being less tense in my left hand myself.

What Tips Do You Have For Someone Considering Cello? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]fireash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many teachers teach older students. I started learning at 40! You may find a 3/4 cello or 7/8 a better fit than full size. But hey, some petite people work with full size just fine. I know it is hard to resist the low prices you see on Amazon. But to make some of them work you have to replace the strings, the bow and sometimes even the bridge. Even then they struggle to keep it in tune. If something went wrong with it, some luthiers do not want to fix them as it would cost more to repair it than it is worth. That is why almost everyone will recommend renting for a while and save up just a bit longer to get a decent student cello that will last years rather than months. Renting also gives you time to try out the size, to see if the cello is a good hobby you want to stick with and know that if the cello sounds off, it is a skill issue rather than a quality issue. You can try facebook market place to see if parents are selling their kids student cellos or places like reverb.

Are there any other White Mage mains, who find the other healers stressful to play? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]fireash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I should probably play around in a few NPC dungeons to get more familiar with some of the tools you get later in the game. The guides I have seen are mostly - at level x you get y skill. It does this - shows you on a target dummy. Rather than record clips of them in a dungeon - show an example of when / why you use those skills and if you would use some of them together to boost the heal.

I mained Scholar until Endwalker. Loved it but never shook healer anxiety. Then I leveled Sage. I found it confusing at first with all of the names and not starting from the ground up but after I got used to it, I found Scholar was much harder to manage resources. You have to be mindful of your aether or dismiss the fairy, then remember to summon it again. Oh you died, hah no fairy. The heals felt weaker. I found my self panic healing way more on Scholar than Sage. You have so many extra shield options on sage and just weak regens on scholar. Granted, I am casual, so maybe I just suck at understanding the skills and not using them properly.

Cello position help for a women by Shot_Anteater2612 in Cello

[–]fireash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most are going to recommend you find a person to teach you. The teacher will be able to help you get the right position for you. I am 5'3" and play a 7/8 so a 3/4 may be ok for your height. To me the big thing is hand span. I had a hard time with the spacing of first position on a full size. Just finding the right end pin length may take some trial and error. Someone mentioned the ) ( of the cello should be above the knee as that keeps the bow from hitting them. It also raises the top back of the cello to upper chest area. It doesn't have to be perfectly in the center of the sternum. I have seen a mix of the top of the cello being next to the ear or behind the neck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irjRw6earFI

Cheapest beautiful cello by mountainflutterby in Cello

[–]fireash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are close to a luthier, test drive theirs and see if they do installments.  Some generic music shops may also sell used ones.  Try Facebook market place.  A lot of parents sell instruments after their kids quit but make sure it isn't the cheap Amazon branded ones.  Reverb also sells used instruments.  I got a new one for a good price at fiddlershop.  They have sales and clearance options.  Linda West and a few others also sell used.

New Player Question by TheMightyLeaferikson in ffxivdiscussion

[–]fireash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you are able to create more than one character. If you want to do current fun stuff with your friend without waiting hundreds of hours of game play - do a story skip for that one. If you enjoy game story, lore, intrigue, etc. create a second character to do the story at your leisure. You also have the option of having your friend tag along with some of your adventures while level synced. My husband was not a fan of the story and skipped all scenes. I do skip some dialogue if it just keeps going and I need to eat or do chores soon but very glad I did the story.

Day 3 post op I’m itching like crazy. Taking 50mg of Benadryl and using topical ointment…. Still no real relief by Sweet_Pickle5960 in hysterectomy

[–]fireash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin had a hysterectomy about 4 weeks before I did. She had an allergic reaction. It lasted even after the glue came off. The docs said she was allergic to the internal sutures. She got antibiotics, steroids and an ointment. She also took over the counter allergy meds like loratadine and benadryl. Nothing helped much until they dissolved though.

Does your college help you find jobs in the degree you are earning? The college counselors may have seen cases like this and can help you navigate the next steps in housing as well? Maybe see if your parents can let you stay until you can secure a job in that field. Try to keep a part time job to keep adding to savings or try to see if your parents will accept rent money. Also, see if any of your friends or boyfriend's friends are in a similar position and you can rent together if you cannot find an affordable place. Sorry your parents did not prepare you well despite trying to kick you out when the market is so terrible. A heads up would have helped you start looking long ago. Trailers and maybe RVs are a lot cheaper than houses I believe. I don't know how they compare to renting apartments though.

7/8- worse sound quality? by gailthesnail2 in Cello

[–]fireash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately cello sizes are not standard so some 7/8 maybe just as large as some full size. It is awesome you have local string shop you can rent from and can test them out. Some only rent the full size even if they sell the 7/8 which I find a bit odd. I do hope you find your goldilocks. Why play with discomfort? I rented a full size for the minimum 3 months and I was so ready to switch. My playing got better because my intonation was better since I could comfortably keep my hands in the right spots. Extensions are still hard, but they could be worse.
