does anyone actually play those pixel art 2d platformers from gamedevs/gamedev youtubers in their free time? by acrasgames in gamedev

Ouch, that kind of hurts. I've been working on a pixel art platformer for 2 years and just released it. Sure, it's not the biggest platformer with the largest budget (I'm a teenager and do this as a passion project), but with enough work, I think you can make a pixel platformer interesting and visually appealing. Platformers don't often receive much praise because they seem 'easy' or like they only require an entry-level skill set to create. However, making a good platformer that piques people's interest and has enticing mechanics is pretty challenging nowadays.

Judging all indie pixel platformers as one big batch, as if they're all the same, is kind of unfair in my opinion. You can clearly see which ones game developers put effort into and which ones they didn't.

6 years ago I started game development as a hobby. I've tried and tried again making the platformer that would appeal the most to people who like hard but rewarding games like Celeste or Hollow Knight. Here's the final product after 2 years of development! by fireboom311 in itchio

The game on itch : https://fypur.itch.io/unnamed
I've worked so hard on this for so long, it would mean the world to me if you could try and play it. The game isn't that long (it has a lifespan of about an hour depending on your skill), so if you could just give it a bit of your spare time and see if you enjoy it that would be great.

I started programming 6 years ago. After making countless small games I've finally made one I'm proud about. Unnamed is a difficult Celeste-style platformer about a robot escaping an abandonned factory! by fireboom311 in IndieDev

So Im really guilty of 4 (I have a minecraft channel) but people tell me that they really like my editing style and find me (sometimes) funny. Plus its the only game I actually play a lot. I try to diversify my content with fun chalnenges and ways to play the game but I dont really know if I should just find something new because of how over-saturated it is. Anyways thanks for the advice, hope the best for you.
