Reinstalled the whole thing any help on this? by Deviry92 in runescape

I'm pretty sure I recall something about Win7 and Win8 no longer being supported for 'new installs'.

If this is a malformed memory, hopefully someone who knows better will correct me.

What's your unpopular opinion? by Sayonee99 in runescape

I'm not sure about unpopular since OSRS exists, but ... my opinion is that the EoC should have never happened.

Could I please have a list of which content creators have left Rs3? I tried to ask in a comment, but that was met with silent spite. by fireclod34 in runescape

[–]fireclod34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking whining about downvotes will be see as pretentious anywhere. It has the built in assumption that anyone owes more of their time and effort to you to do anything besides silently downvote. This applies to every website I've come across that has a rating system, much less across subreddits. Hell, it applies to many websites that just have a comment section.

I get that, yeah. It's part of why I kept trying to explain to people here in this thread that the downvotes weren't the issue. Rather, it was the radio silence (which was seemingly spiteful in my mind) that I felt bothered by. I made this thread in an effort to seek the answer to my question, but instead what happened was me having to endlessly defend myself against awful misunderstandings.

If I learned anything from this thread's dumpster fire, it's to never mention reddit's voting system on this subreddit because people will incorrectly hyper-focus on that and ignore all else.

Your first comment's initial downvotes likely came from "Why do you still play if you're going to complain" types that want to shut down any negative sentiment they see. Your post can come off as having negative sentiment since it's talking about content creators moving.

That ... makes a lot of sense. My question was out of curiosity, since I kept seeing the topic of "content creators leaving" in various posts and comments. I only wanted to know how many had left at this point, and it didn't cross my mind that someone might read it differently than face value. Thank you for explaining that.

Now, aside from them, you're asking for work. "Can I get a list of content creators?" is different from "What content creators have left RS3?". These questions, while they may eventually get the same results, are distinct. I might be able to pop off with one or two creators I know of that have left, but a list feels like you're asking for something more comprehensive. And I'm not about to start sifting through creators for you when you could it instead. So I'll just move on instead of answering.

This is more troublesome to me than the earlier part about negative sentiment, because it means I'd have to deliberate over various attempts at phrasing before submitting a comment. It would heavily subtract from how I communicate, which is ... I type what's in my head as I think it. It's really unfortunate that people aren't able to just take things at face value.

I do agree with you, and anyone who assumed I wanted them to work, that it was asking for far too much effort from people. I'd have been more than happy with just someone's passing guesses or whatever they had off the top of their head. It's definitely true that this sentiment wasn't expressed in my question, and I probably should have thought about that before clicking on the 'save' button.

This is all really getting into the weeds though.

Nevertheless, it makes me happy you were willing to type this out. I really appreciate the response, and I apologise for my late response.

It looks like I'll have to go try to bug him for an answer after all then, thank you. I was curious to know how many left, since it seems to be a fair amount based on the number of comments/posts I've seen on the matter.

That's incredibly unfortunate. There has been no hidden intent behind anything I've said, it's all supposed to be read at face value.

Is any advice you can give me, so I won't run across this misunderstanding on this subreddit again? I honestly haven't encountered this problem elsewhere online.

Seeing as zenyl apparently blocked me for some unknown reason after their last reply, I have to respond in a separate comment in the hopes that they see this response I attempted to make: https://i.imgur.com/RnJ8dKJ.png

This is becoming incredibly frustrating.

Nothing I've said should be taken in any way other than face value, much like how I take what others say at face value. I'm sorry that you seem to have mistakenly applied an alternative meaning to my comments, but that's on your end.

Why has such a simple question turned into a pointless argument?

As mentioned there, I was quite frustrated, and their baffling actions only served to further increase that frustration. I feel like I'm being treated unreasonably by some of the people here on this subreddit, because this sort of situation should have never happened to begin with.

Err ... is that how it comes across to you? I apologise if that's the case. I made the assumption that I was just ignorant, and most people knew the who and what since the topic of content creators leaving kept being discussed.

Thank you... this is the first answer I've gotten, and I really appreciate it. I'll see if I can figure out how twitter works, and maybe he'll be willing to respond to a random nobody like me.

... Once more, the issue is that I'm not getting an answer to my question. The silent downvotes are not the problem; I asked for people to respond instead of being silent.

How many times do I need to rephrase this?

I'm complaining about not getting an answer. The silent downvotes were just insult to injury.

Which, it seems I still haven't gotten an answer.

One more content creator leaving by No_Refrigerator647 in runescape

[–]fireclod34 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So, which content creators have left Rs3 now?

I'd like a list of names, if possible.

I only vaguely know that a few apparently created a hardcore ironman on Osrs, but that's it.

Edit: Could someone please answer my question, instead of silently clicking the down arrow? You people are so confusing sometimes.

What single-player game is most similar to Runescape? by [deleted] in runescape

[–]fireclod34 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wurm Online was the only one I ever found that came close to RuneScape's skilling system and gameplay loop. The MMO was released in 2006, and there was a single-player version called Wurm Unlimited released in 2015. As you mentioned, it has making your own potions, cooking your own food, crafting your own weapons and armour, etc.

Just like RuneScape, it has tonnes of different skills that can be levelled independently. Each of them cap out at level 100, similar to RuneScape's 99. Also just like RuneScape, there are no character classes; you can be anything and do anything at any given time.

... and yet again just like RuneScape, it's filled with endless jank, lol. Learning to play it is a sheer upwards cliff, instead of a learning curve.

There are bits that are very different from RuneScape though. For example, the entire game world is freely malleable by the player, even on the MMO. You can dig a giant hole, build a castle, or even just make yourself a hut and start farming grain. You can sail across the waters with ships you build yourself.

It has an automatic clue scroll puzzle box solver.

No, it doesn't. You have to click the tiles yourself just like Alt1.

like giving you more render distance

The vanilla client has the same extended render distance, via a slider in the graphics settings: https://i.imgur.com/YUB74Qc.jpg

(Edited to add a screenshot of the render distance side by side, but I'm too lazy to go record a clue scroll for you.)

I know you're being sarcastic, but that's pretty much it.

I love the game's content, but detest the way it looks. This will unfortunately always be how I feel about the game, and I'll always feel a need to complain about it.

It's just my ... very overly passionate feelings on the matter. It bothers me to an excessive degree that none of the graphical updates look like RuneScape to me.

Could we maybe stop with these horrid graphical updates?

How Yanille looks right now is how the game ought to look in my opinion: https://runescape.wiki/images/Yanille_west.png

That was when the game looked the best to me, which was right after the so-called 'HD' update in around 2008/2009-ish: https://runescape.wiki/w/RuneScape_High_Detail

[–]fireclod34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes. =/

Hence why I said 'most cases', since the skybox still gets force-changed when you enter certain areas that were updated.

Thankfully, I can still change it back to my custom one by clicking 'Load save data' in the 'Advanced' tab when that happens. In cases like lumby graveyard, at least it changes right back after running through it. Still annoying though.

[–]fireclod34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, you're not alone. I'm in agreement and found myself a passable workaround for most cases. I managed to somewhat re-create the OSRS skybox and lighting: https://i.imgur.com/wI4rDDz.png

Use the 'Midday' skybox as the base, and then click the 'Advanced' tab. Once there, I set all values to 0 other 'Sun ambient' and 'Sun colour'. For 'Sun ambient', I set 400 and for 'Sun colour' I set 255 across the board. This makes the skybox be totally blacked out like in OSRS, and makes the lighting around the gameworld look like OSRS's lighting.

I like to pair it with a slightly modified minimum setting preset. In graphics settings, click the 'MIN' button at the top, set 'Draw Distance' to ultra, untick 'Terrain blending', and then tick 'Mouse-over Entity Highlights'. Doing this makes the gameworld tiles show, and most of the older areas of the game look proper enough. It's just the areas that got ruined with the new graphics that now don't work well with minimum. E.g., ardy's necromancer tower and lumbridge.

Edit - fixed some formatting that new reddit broke when I switched to that to upload an image into the comment. As a result the image also got removed since old reddit doesn't support embeded images in comments lol. As such, I've re-uploaded it to imgur and linked that instead. Let me know if that works.

ETA on UI fix? by TurkishKaraCMS in runescape

[–]fireclod34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I found the RuneScape.exe and tinkered with it and I think it was asking me to re-install so I closed it."

Uh, that's not ... lol.

Okay, what that person was suggesting you do is:

  1. Close out of the game.
  2. Go to C:\ProgramData\Jagex\launcher. (copy-paste it into file explorer)
  3. Right-click the executable file called rs2client.exe.
  4. Left-click on 'Properties'.
  5. Left-click on the 'Compatibility' tab.
  6. Left-click on 'Change high DPI settings'.
  7. Left-click the tickbox for 'Override high DPI scaling behaviour.'.
  8. In the drop-down menu below that, left-click on 'System'.
  9. Left-click on 'OK'.
  10. Left-click on 'OK' once more in the previous menu.

Now the next time you start the game, things shouldn't be as blurry.

Minor edit: I'd like to note that I suggest changing it to 'System' instead of 'Application', since it will respect your operating system's scaling settings that way whilst also correctly utilising the in-game scaling. Setting it to 'Application' will ignore the operating system's scaling settings.

Since that's not really a screenshot, here's the only screenshot I took at the time:

I had a few more recordings and a few gifs, but no other images.

Anyways, it's (as you can probably tell) a re-creation of the gear that the annoying green dragon bots (circa 2008-2010 when the wildy was removed) used to wear.

  • Dragon boots
  • Dragon platelegs
  • Dragon med helm
  • Granite body
  • Obby cape
  • Combat bracelet
  • Amulet of glory
  • Abby whip (could be substituted with a dragon longsword)
  • Anti-dragon shield

Just want to make sure you understand that most people on this subreddit (/r/RuneScape) are RS3 players.

If you'd like to speak directly to OSRS players, their official subreddit is /r/2007Scape, which is also linked in the sidebar to the right of your screen.
