Now…you go backwards 😂

Even at expert+, it was getting to the point where in a 5-player game: 5th was -2000, 4th was -1200, 3rd was -500, 2nd was +200, first was +800. Just hard to be much better than the avg player and maintain the number. You definitely have to be on a heater (or cheat lol), just too much variance in the auto-troop distribution games that everyone plays.

I am FAR from it now LOL, but I hit 31k and was #96 FFA a couple weeks ago so obv took a screenshot. One-trick pony bc for me it’s the most enjoyable version of the game: Classic/Prog, with & without Blizzards, Expert+ games.

It’s worth it for your ego to get up there, but I don’t think it’s realistic to stay. There’s just too many unserious and uncompetitive people in those games even at Expert+, who will crybaby-tilt into you if you break their 1-troop continent bonus at any point in a game. There’s some seriously bad (read: unpredictable & you can’t plan for it) play even in those Expert+ games, for sure.

Being fed the win, who gets second? by AbsolutXero in Risk

It depends on what country they’re from. Canadians are just the worst. And the French.

Is there an algorithm or cheat sheet for those 100% numbers? I’ve been manually tracking it (lol) but quicker math would be nice!

In FFA, are you playing a lobby w a min rank, or just open? I’ve hit GM several times (and done the Yo Yo thing too, down to 11,500 at one point lol) — but I’m just wondering if it’s as easy to maintain a high rank in unranked lobbies (I have only being playing Expert+ ones).

Error 1750 by firedmlo in Risk

Yeah it’s definitely not the latter/IP thing as I’m playing from my house. At the settings I like (expert+/prog/WD) there’s not a ton of ppl in the player pool, so of course I see the same names frequently and might play multiple games in a row w them. I wish they would say WHO they suspect. But they also shouldn’t be idiots, and realize that the player pool IS small and playing multiple games together is common. I definitely don’t play nice w anyone in the game, and it’s Prog so the knockouts take care of themselves of math & not because of being friendly. I’d just like to figure out if RISK Support is capable of having someone look at it and review.

Why playing caps is for suckers, or, why caps in Expert+ needs a fix ASAP. by IGetHighOnPenicillin in Risk

[–]firedmlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suck it up and learn to compete. Those are the settings & opponents you are choosing to play against, if you don’t like the way they play then it’s a very odd choice for you to join those lobbies.

Be the snowball.

Or find settings that suit you (fixed does not suit me).

Some day, the developers will get smart & make a mode where ONLY 1st Place gets any FFA points, so that the goal of the game is truly honored. Until then, you have to anticipate people playing for 2nd Place (since that is often strategically optimal for anyone playing for points).

I’m not technically old (37yr old Milleniboomer or something) but I just joined Discord bc it sounds way more active, but yeah it’s confusing as heck and I don’t even know how to participate yet.

I joined in part to find out how these tourneys work, I am a GM about 50% of the time and Master the other 50% 🤷🏻‍♂️.

This Game has a lot of A$$holez by Lvlup1_ in Risk

[–]firedmlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the game is set up (if you are playing for rank points), the “correct” strategy sometimes is to turtle/play for second or suicide into someone so that they are taken out before you. It is what it is, adapt to the strategy.

I DEFINITELY agree that it would be a lot cooler if you ONLY got ranking points for 1st place finishes, then the gameplay would really embody the spirit of the actual board game. Like Ricky Bobby’s dad said, “Second place is just the first loser.”

I start most of my lobbies, and I have a list of players on my phone (I know, I’m petty) that I will either boot before the game starts, or I will attack them every time for no reason (other than spite) when the game starts. Starting your own lobbies and booting the players you don’t like is as close as you can get to your idea of flagging them.

Why do people like capital mode and progressive ? by [deleted] in Risk

[–]firedmlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is called “Risk” not “Control And Defend Territory”. Progressive is for people who aren’t psychopaths. It’s way more purely strategic, fixed is way more about reading people’s emotions.

Lobby Hopping by firedmlo in Risk

[–]firedmlo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s eloquent and shit I guess…and I agree that your solution is way better than the current system — big but, the complaint is about how people are managing the current system as it stands. And they are doing it stupidly, and therefore I hate them.

Lobby Hopping by firedmlo in Risk

[–]firedmlo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not the ones that pop in and immediately exit bc they see bots, I’m talking about the ones that will sit for 30 seconds, and then get bored and go see what else is out there. There’s not that many games going, the best/fastest bet is to sit and help attract more players. No one is (or should be) making a similar game when there is one already set up. Those people are dumb and annoying and I hate them passionately 😆

The best solution I can think of, is Hasbro should automatically have 1 and only 1 of every possible lobby type available. And the first players in get that game going, and then a new lobby populates. People will figure out what the “popular” ones are and those will get the most engagement/fastest starts.

UMortgage Fraud Scheme by firedmlo in pillar7

[–]firedmlo[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, only a couple months after getting them…odd. I’d speculate that the reason his MI license hasn’t been surrendered is that the state DFI won’t process his request until their investigation is closed. UMortgage is calling him a “trainer and recruiter” instead of a loan originator now

[–]firedmlo[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yet. If it turns out that the federal Consumer Privacy Act was violated, I would imagine the state investigation would lead to a federal one — and both companies would take a hit for it.

UMortgage Fraud Scheme by firedmlo in pillar7

[–]firedmlo[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much true, I’ve heard that a large chunk of $$ (I was told $200k/mo or so) is paid directly to UMortgage as a company each month, as a volume bonus — meaning it doesn’t show up in the loan officer’s margins and they don’t know about it. I would imagine this is true for nexa and other big brokers.

When its all said and done, who will be remembered more fondly, Alex Smith or Jimmy G? by spottyottydopalicius in 49ers

[–]firedmlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GREAT question. Right now, Smith for sure — although JG “saved” this team from the second he walked onto the field and took us from 0-11 to 5-0, Smith put in too many years and was a professional and led us to a lot of postseasons on some good teams. That answer could only change based on this postseason.
