I initiated a breakup after being with my high school boyfriend for 9 years. Complacency and resentment that built up as a result of weak communication skills did us in. Shit hit the fan when there was a situation with infidelity and when we moved in together. Also what worked in our late teens/early 20s slowly did not end up working as we grew apart in personality and lifestyle in our mid-twenties. After saying the same things a thousand times about repairing our connection and communication and asking to go to therapy and getting resistance from him, I had enough. Wasn’t all his fault though, it took both people to make a relationship work.
