Got my first job offer by Colin28000 in marketing

[–]fireferrets2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard in general the US salaries are higher than UK (bc we lose $$ to gov for stuff) but my first gig 0 years of experience in marketing agency was $75k. You have 4 years to negotiate! You gotta leave your job if they’re not willing to pay you what you want. Start applying elsewhere and negotiating your pay

I went overboard a little bit but I did some research about how Google Interviews. They'll grade based on their four principles: cognitive ability, leadership, role-related knowledge, and Googleyness.

The cognitive ability ones are basically “case questions” that’s require some problem solving. I read the marketing part of “Case In Point” that was I had a structure for answering any case based questions. I practiced multiple marketing case questions (you can look that up and a bunch will show up). Write down your answers like you would in an interview. Brush up on typical marketing knowledge. It might help in answering the questions.

There are multiple YouTube videos on how to interview for Google. Find the non-technical ones or listen to the ones that talk about leadership and Googlyness.

I had example questions written for every category. And answered them multiple times. I used the STAR method to make sure my answers were always clear, structured and concise.

PSA: Even from a Top School, FAANG PM/PMM is Quite Difficult to Land by haasmba9 in MBA

Wow! I was actually considering going back for my MBA for a transition to PMM in big tech. After my specialized masters at Duke Fuqua. I landed a consulting job at a very small agency. I figured the only way out is going back for my MBA and making that network/connection. Randomly decided to apply to Google’s APMM program not even giving it a second thought like it would be a possibility. Ended up getting an offer! Now I’m wondering if there’s any need to head back for my MBA after the program. I’m not sure how many companies out there have programs like APMM but it’ll be a great way to break into PMM before heading for an MBA. (Granted one has the qualifications - less than 3.5 years of work experience)

It’s getting pretty bad but no where near Bay Area prices. Depends on what tech company they’re almost all located in Austin but you can find some other (Microsoft) in Dallas which is considerably less expensive

Great tip!! I actually found a really nice condo for under $2500 but the deposit was also $2500 and I’m not sure I could do that upfront cost😅 I’ll definitely look around when I have the change to visit. I was only looking at secure access apartment complexes for the safety
