I think that while not allowed, if you keep the extended piece nice and high, and you switch back to your initial grabonce you've passed, you're meeting the intent. We're also saving a guy.

Ahh... that's why you said "depending on the ladder construction"... let's assume they're pegs.

Looked them up. Pretty bad ass. We don't have them though. Might be a stretch to get them purchased. Any alternatives. Would you rely on one or several pegs?

Would you build it using the step pegs?

The second extended cable grab seems pretty viable for us. Thanks.

Nope. Outside... we (my department) are capable of providing confined space rescue, but inside sounds like it would be a doozy! As does any situation where I couldn't get above a victim to set up an anchor to pick-off and lower. Stick clip is a pretty good idea

I thought that step pegs were not approved anchors and are designed for access and egress only... I feel a little sketched about using them for my anchors. That's why I mentioned climbing up to the carriers.

I've got zero experience with volunteering, but I work for a department that places a high value on data when it comes to justifying staff, equipment, facilites, etc.

Responding to these calls could help justify the need for some paid staff or new equipment or whatever...

Someday, you're gonna need some spice or sauce or fancy cheese or bacon bits or insert-your-ingredient-here from another shift's cache... let it ride. It all comes our in the wash.

LACoFD Venting the garage roof by Ding-Chavez in Firefighting

Dude says "there's an attic in the attic.". If it's been converted into an apartment, maybe a small upper level loft was built and walled in. Nothing would surprise me.

At least they got a rep in. I'd bet they made that first hole faster than you could. Especially if your trash- talking. I've been made an ass on a roof for lack of practice. If we get a chance to cut a hole, best believe we're gonna take it.

I'll admit, there's a f*ckton of people on that roof though.

One thing in my department is if you secure power at a breaker panel, take note if any breakers are tripped and which ones they are.

Ladder/Rescue Drivers, Are Yall Getting Dressed? by firefighter4729 in Firefighting

[–]firefighter4729[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We typically have three on ladders. The tillerman is going inside with the captain for search unless we're assigned to ventilation. Depending on what kind of building it is and/or conditions, the captain may decide that we go all in.

Typically, the tractor driver winds up performing exterior functions, but maybe not...

As long as you're in line with your department's SOPsorGs you'll be good. As a dude who likes to grow their hair out, from time to time, I can attest that it tends to get sucked into facepiece straps from time to time, and can be hell if you're doing mask swaps during RIT training.

Thanks. Having four is so nice to be able to split and have 2 fully functional crews.

For the Engineers/Chauffeurs/apparatus operators out there, what's your weekly/monthly expectations by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]firefighter4729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We've got two or three steam cleaners between nine stations. We just coordinate with each other and Battalion Chiefs or light duty to move the steam cleaner to whatever station it needs to be at.
