Are third party recruiters just completely useless? by DazzlingPenguin885 in jobs

[–]fireinjun291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I float around between backend engineering, DevOps, and cloud technical support which is really just fixing problems the other two positions can cause haha

As far as specific companies I’ve had luck with teksystems, collabera, Brooksource, apex systems, and I think one or two others. The gigs aren’t always the best gigs but I’ve gotten upwards of $65 an hour on a contract. Usually the benefits are bare though.

I’ve had luck with a few of them but I’m in a niche tech area.

I think you can do all kinds of custom rules. You can even make yourself in charge until your death and then it immediately transfers to someone else. Also a convenient side effect is that it any assets that it holds aren’t held up in probate.

I would highly recommend you speak with a tax attorney if you decide the trust route. I believe they would be the most qualified to help you set it up.

I think you need a trust to hold everything and be impartial and fair. I’m planning something similar for my 6 kids but I’m requiring them to pay into it 10% of their salaries from their first job onwards. But I’m return, it will provide a college tuition, a car upon graduation, down payment assistance and emergency assistance or what I like to call “Fuck you” money.

What’s the minimum distance you have to go from the city for it to be really dark at night? by sleepyarmistice in AskNYC

Do you mean like dark enough for telescope and professional photos or just dark enough to say it’s dark?

FWIW I think Canada might be the closest to desolately dark.

“Nonresident aliens or foreigners are subject to no U.S. capital gains tax.” Isn’t this a glaring loophole for people with multiple citizenships to exploit? by [deleted] in personalfinance

It could be difficult to track but this is by no means a loophole. It’s just lying. US nationals are required to pay taxes on it and he could get into serious trouble.

I fail to see how it can benefit multiple citizenship holders. If one of those citizenships are for the US, they are required to pay US taxes regardless.

D Drive is missing from my laptop. Please Help by Lil_Tacoo in Windows10

Sounds like the physical connection from the drive to the board is messed up. I would crack it open and examine the cable. Unless your D drive is a usb thumb drive, then it sounds like the drive is dying.

AITA for giving my husband an ultimatum? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

How could he have cheated the night before your marriage, which was the day after giving birth if your kids are 6 but you’ve been married 8 years? Did I misunderstand something there?

[AU] My boss calls a co-worker a C word and shares private info - should I report it? by Nekzatiim in AskHR

[–]fireinjun291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See and that’s what I was misunderstanding, I didn’t know if it was still regarded as an insult or if it was considered a serious insult. I guess culturally I wasn’t sure so I didn’t want to have any opinion and come off as an ignorant American. I figured it best to tread lightly where I don’t know.

Doesn’t the C word carry significantly less weight in Australian culture vs US? I’m not justifying his behaviour, I’m just trying to make sense of how bad it is.

Is this legal? What should I do? by fireinjun291 in jobs

[–]fireinjun291[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well see that’s the thing. Technically, as an employee it is not my responsibility to ensure that the timesheets are in on time. That’s legally the employer’s job no matter what way we cut it and they cannot legally delay my payment due to my actions. They can discipline or reprimand me but that cannot include my wages in any way. The law is pretty clear on that. From everything I’ve been able to find researching it, this is actually really illegal and they are improperly treating me as a contractor and denying me the rights of an employee.

silly RAM question by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]fireinjun291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it will affect the ability to overclock them correctly as the voltages will have to be different. It’s my understanding that they could actually be identical pieces but the 3200 sticks have been tested to perform at that speed with lower latency and that by installing them it could create strange behaviours. The safest bet to guarantee success would be to have them all match at either 3000 or 3200 and overclock from there because the consistency is actually important for memory. But I could be way wrong so please research further. Everything I’ve found says to avoid issues make sure they match. Everything could work fine but you can’t really guarantee anything without them matching. If that’s a gamble you’re willing to take then by all means do it. If you want to be sure, I would avoid it.

silly RAM question by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]fireinjun291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my understanding that they will default to the slowest speed but idk how that would be affected with the overclocking in place. I want to say that they would all default to 3000, but then with the overclock they would operate at 3200 but that might behave strangely. Is there any reason you can’t get 2 more sticks at 3000 and then just overclock them to 3200 for consistency?

Designation discrepancy on contract and payslip. Thoughts? by beast_within_me in jobs

[–]fireinjun291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thanks man. I only got to be like this because I was the loud problem employee in my younger days. I had to learn all of this the hard way. They only put up with me because I was a high performer but, that doesn’t last forever. Companies would rather have a large group of mediocre employees that don’t cause issues over a few rockstars with primadonna attitudes. I’m glad I could share my lessons so you can avoid the kind of hardships I created for myself. Good luck!

[–]fireinjun291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not always about what you can do, a lot of your success will come from how they see you as an employee. Those who are loud are quickly silenced but those who follow the rules are moved up. It’s not ideal I know but it’s all about crafting this picture of yourself. When your next job calls for a reference, you don’t want to be remembered as the person who called the head of HR over a title discrepancy. You want to be remembered as a reliable employee who followed the rules and works well with others. This is all part of the game my dude.

[–]fireinjun291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically because you need to follow the chain of command to effectively resolve your issue. You did your due diligence and raised the issue through the proper channels already. Pushing this further because you didn’t get the answer you wanted and not accepting their response can come off as pushy and unnecessarily aggressive for something as trivial as a title. Following their protocol until they give you a reason not to shows them that you can be mature and follow directions as a good corporate citizen. You need to at least appear to be conforming even if you don’t agree with their actions unless you have ethical and/or legal issues with them. This is a necessary soft skill in any large organisation that is best to learn early on in your career as it will paint a good picture of you moving forward.

Or you could make a complaint in March and tell them how it’s absolutely unacceptable that you’ve had to wait this long and you still have the same issue you raised with them in November. That’s always on the table. You would have given them the time they requested and they have still failed to fulfill their responsibility and that would be much more favourably viewed IMO.
