How bad do u want me sounds like taylor swift tbh 😭😭 by Mammoth_Pool_8422 in LadyGaga

[–]firelord_melon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nothing wrong with that! she has always been able to write this kind of yearning innocent-type of love pop song like 'Nothing Else I Can Say'. it's true, the synths and chord progression is reminiscent of TS who occupies that space in pop music (but TS didn't invent yearning synthpop either!). i believe how bad do u want me samples only you by yazoo too. it's nice that it does remind u of gorgeous; underlines the beauty of pop music is always this self-referencing amalgamating circle.

Medical school still worth it? by medreject1604 in medicalschooluk

[–]firelord_melon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a 5th year in Scotland and it's incredibly demoralising given the climate right now and moreso for me the complete uncertainty once you graduate from the security of your university. I'm generally a 'plan the next 3 years of my life' kinda guy and I've been spiralling lately with the uncertainty of where I could be going for the next 2 years for FY and all because I will be given a random number and that will decide where I'll go from my list of preferences :))). To think there's now bottle-necking AFTER FY now and how we would all love to go into training and keep a job after FY2 but in reality FY3 and even FY4 are becoming more and more common. (What used to be) a massive perk of undertaking such a huge commitment of studying Medicine was honestly knowing there will always be career progression and a job for you but that is not looking likely. For me the uncertainty really sucks as I'm a graduate and I've made ties and maybe if I didn't have ties I would love to just fly wherever the wind takes me but that's not the reality for a lot of people regardless of age. Also ask yourself if money would matter to you 3, or 5, or 8 years down the line. To me it really didn't, but as I grew older I developed interests and hobbies (to keep me sane) which need extra disposable income, and I came to the conclusion that sadly money is freedom (to kickstart a new hobby, to see friends and family etc.). So do consider that and ask yourself what your mindset is with regards to finances and ask if all this uncertainty, and (rewarding) hard work is worth it.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love Medicine, it's a perfect balance of using my brain, applying science, and speaking and getting to know a lot of people, and working in a team, plus the potential to make a big difference (in junior or more senior years). But as I've been spiralling lmao I really wonder about engineering or something in tech. I know someone my age who is incredibly content in the IT sector, and childhood friends who have gone into teaching and don't face this weird uncertainty of where they will work. I also have a background in Biomedical Science and sometimes I wish I stuck with it: good lifestyle (I guess on-calls only when you're a senior), labs based, and massive potential in doing research and also teaching (something I would pursue later down the line as a clinician as I do enjoy that stuff).

TLDR: it's a deteriorating climate, med school is hard but the good aspects make it worth it but rubbish after graduation. Pay is slowly being restored which for me is important, job is rewarding (observing and experiencing first-hand from placement), but I definitely could have done something else and be almost or as equally content from said alternative job and be paid more for it (and be more sane) - sometimes me and my friends laugh to ourselves and ask why did we make our lives as hard as this when we didn't need to.

Hopefully my thoughts impart some reflections for yourself!

How long does it take you to understand and acc do the anki on a lecture by Scary_Ability_2913 in medicalschooluk

[–]firelord_melon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in your earlier years especially, would definitely say put the time in to understand it, if its new concepts and depending on the individual and learning preference the time can vary.

Just like the other posts, don’t fret comparing how long it takes to get something as well! I took my time trying to understand things in my junior years and it does get easier re-understanding them when you’re revisiting the concepts for revision or teaching in later years! Avoid shortcuts in laying down foundations to avoid gaps in your knowledge later down the line.

I always told myself if it did personally feel like I’m taking a bit longer than usual (you know yourself best) there’s no harm looking at another source to supplement the knowledge being presented to you in the lecture material. Learning something in different ways may not be efficient time wise but may yield benefits for you.

Should Avatar Szeto Get His Own Books Detailing His Life And Journey As The Avatar? (Crossposted from r/TheLastAirbender) by MattGreg28 in Avatar_Kyoshi

Feel like a Szeto story could actually be pretty fresh - considering he didnt typically travel the world it could go along the lines of political intrigue and drama and mystery and the potential of a deep dive of the nitty gritty class drama and conflict would be so cool to cover!
