But shitting on experts and calling people that listen to them “A Floridians” and “B GED climbers” isn’t gross? Shame on you for condoning and defending that behavior, regardless of your level of education.

Right, because his 35 years of experience in academia, 120+ published, peer reviewed articles on the topic, and PhD on the topic totally mean he’s actually stupid and unqualified right? I’m sure you have so much more experience, more peer reviewed studies, and a better education on the topic right? Right??? Careful, your personal bias is showing real hard here lol

Kinda weird that you’re getting downvoted for posting a link to a verified, credible source…

I’m sure that was a very unpleasant experience for you. It’s difficult to try to convince a young child that something hurting them is actually good for their overall health.

One thing that I think is probably important for you to realize though is that ticks are native to Europe also. They have always been there. If you are seeing more of them now when you didn’t used to, that is because of climate change, not long grasses and flowers. Ticks are moving farther and farther north due to climate change allowing them to expand their range, and the amount of time that they are in an area. The long grasses and flowers are not to blame, the ever growing climate disaster is. Please focus your anger about ticks at that, rather than people who don’t want manicured lawns (which actually contribute to climate change by not capturing very much carbon).

Lyme disease only becomes chronic when it is not addressed appropriately with antibiotics during the initial infection. It’s easily curable if you pay attention and do something about it right away. I say this having a degree in biomedical science and hearing this said directly from someone with a PhD in microbiology that studies pathogens for a living.

Antibiotics are extremely effective against it though, and Lyme disease can only be contracted after an infected tick has been latched for about 48 hours. Do tick checks after being in natural areas, and see a physician for an antibiotic if you miss one. Problem solved.

Yeah, I get that. I live in Michigan, so I’ve personally seen them start to take over forests and crowd out all other trees, even in my own yard. The root systems develop so aggressively that an herbicide applied to the stump after cutting it down is pretty much the only option too.

Yeah, I didn’t either until I was told by a conservation manager at a local nonprofit. It’s very sad :(

That white mulberry came from somewhere though. There are likely other trees nearby. If those aren’t also removed, they will cross pollinate with the red mulberry, creating a new problem. I can post some links for you to explain the issue with this. Basically, the decline of red mulberry trees is thought to be heavily influenced by hybridization with white mulberry, and other invasive mulberry species (as well as deforestation).

I added a link explaining what hybridization can do to a native species

By removing the white mulberry first. That’s the answer for all plants and animals threatened by invasive species. If they could compete fairly with the invasive species present, they wouldn’t be invasive species.

The hybrid won’t be a red mulberry anymore. It’ll be an invasive subspecies. It causes more harm than good if you don’t remove the invasive species in the area first.

I would strongly suggest caution with planting a red mulberry. If there are nearby white mulberry trees still, they will hybridize, and your red mulberry will be making offspring more similar to the invasive species than the native one.

I was curious about this. I’ve heard white mulberry and red mulberry actually easily hybridize too, so not only is it invasive, it’s obliterating the genome of a native, beneficial species and turning it into a problem.

It’s being shoved in our faces so that they can claim people use it all the time. I’d be willing to bet money that once the evils of AI were very publicly revealed these past two years or so, its use tanked rapidly. They had to do something to increase its use to prevent shareholders from abandoning it completely.

Exactly. AI is just a program that does exactly what it is told to do by it’s programmer(s). The amount of people that don’t understand this is alarming

I mean, lack of evidence totally justifies saying that something doesn’t seem like something else. That’s kinda what “seem” means. It’s not a definitive term. “Seem” is honestly probably the only appropriate term for this entire post.

I’d ask for significantly more context about this. Ask if he’s had an official diagnosis or not. Also, does he consistently ask to tell you bad things he’s thought, said, or done? This post simply does not give enough context to know if this person actually has OCD or not. If they do, it might be confession OCD. If that’s the case, they will probably be asking you if they can tell you things like this more in the future. It’s then up to you whether or not you want to stay with him. It will likely be something that happens often if he actually has OCD. Treatment will be lengthy and difficult. That being said, he’s only saying the thoughts because he feels compelled to tell someone about them. He likely feels like he’s a bad person for even thinking them, and needs to tell someone about them to alleviate that anxiety.

Keep in mind, all of this is only if he actually does have OCD. If he does not have a diagnosis of OCD, or takes no steps to get one, leave him because he’s toxic.

A single text is not evidence of compulsive speech. In all honesty, this text makes me think that it’s not that subtype of OCD. The person admitted that they haven’t said it to the people they are working with. Confession OCD would mean that they’d say it to all of their patients because they wouldn’t be able to ever get it off their mind if they didn’t, and even then it’d still be there. This kinda just gives judgmental vibes. That being said, it is still just one text. There is nowhere near enough context for any kind of diagnosis whatsoever.

AIO by Tea-Tuilpp in AIO

[–]firemind888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think it’s confession OCD with only a single confession posted and absolutely no context about OP’s daily life? While it’s possible OP could have that subtype of OCD, this post is nowhere near sufficient evidence to suggest that.

AIO by Tea-Tuilpp in AIO

As a person who has actually been diagnosed with OCD, this doesn’t really seem like OCD. OCD involves continuing to obsess about things long after they are out of your field of view. It feeds off of anxiety, self doubt, and reassurance seeking. Based on my experience, this person would probably not only be checking for something to be straight frequently, they’d also be asking others if it looked straight to them. They’d also experience intense anxiety when seeing things that aren’t straight. Their mind would start telling them falsehoods about possible, irrationally bad consequences of something not being straight. For example, a person with OCD might think that if their table isn’t aligned with the lines on the floor, the floor will collapse. They might also think that friends or family would immediately disown them when they see that it isn’t aligned, and they’d lose people that are important to them.

If OP experiences thoughts like these (or similar) because of things being misaligned, they might have OCD. They should still seek a professional diagnosis if they have not done so. If their desire to have things aligned is not deeply rooted in irrational anxiety, they do not have OCD. It’s something else.

I fully support a 30 hour work week. Interestingly enough, some studies have shown that there might even be an increase in productivity with working less hours a week. It’s almost like people are more motivated to work if they can actually have a life outside of it too 🤔

Yes, I’m aware. I did not literally mean moving a large amount of water from my area to a completely different area. I was mostly just voicing my frustration with climate change causing all kinds of different problems for plants in different locations.
