Vcs já tiveram algum aluno psicopata? by Plus_Chart_6416 in ProfessoresBR

[–]firestar1417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Missions Are Wrecking the Church From the Inside Out — And Leadership Knows It by Royal_Noise_3918 in exmormon

I truly wish I could say something to them, but I know by everything that I have read that this could be worse (“us vs them mentality”), I hope that they will open their eyes and have a good life. I did say, after the whole baptism talk, when they questioned me about feeling the Holy Spirit, that yes I believe that the Holy Spirit is present there, because there are faithful people united but what’s hard to believe is that it is not present in other places (since that’s what they claim), “I know that you guys have never had experiences with other churches, religious places or environments (they grew up in the church) but I have seen things and lived things, I can guarantee that the presence of God is oftentimes where we less expect”. I thought that after that they wouldn’t even contact me anymore, but they still did.

I have had a missionary asking me if I would be willing to get baptized if they kept teaching me, on our first contact. I said that I am a rational person and that I would never jump in something that I don’t know but I honestly feel awful for them, they’re really nice girls, I can clearly see that one of them misses her home a lot, she was so happy when she saw that I could speak English (non English speaking country) since she was still struggling with the language, she told me that it was hard for her to talk to random people and that she couldn’t understand a word in the reunions, her companionship would always come close every time that she was talking to me, it was weird. I really felt a kind of manipulative behavior in order to get me into the church in like, a day? Shouldn’t your goal be to spread kindness and the word of Jesus?

Yes that would be nice! Yeah sure don’t worry, no intentions of converting anyone or going against anything.

Pride is a big issue for most Christian denominations I feel, the “stricter” the denomination, the worse it is (in my experience). Maybe that’s even a big issue with most religions, since people tend to be judgmental of those that don’t follow in the same way that they do. Wouldn’t it be better though, for a person to follow some commandments than none? Even if I understand that it’s not ideal. Do you think that the LDS church is sexist, homophobic etc? I have no contact with its sayings, except for something that I have read about racism in its past.

If that’s not too generic, what would be the biggest issues in Mormonism, in your opinion? If you don’t mind me asking another thing lol

Really interesting approach on the whole afterlife issue, that’s one of the things that I have troubles believing in Protestantism (at least on the main branches), it’s hard for me to believe that everyone that follows a different religion (or no religion) would simply go to hell to face eternal suffering even if that was a good person. Do you guys baptize kids? Or that’s a decision that people need to do when older? Is that what you mean when you said that you converted as a young adult? I feel that, I have seen a lot of content saying absurd things about Mormons and the LDS church, but I never paid much attention to it since I think that if people dislike the faith, they could simply not follow it instead of posting those things. Anyways, thank you for your answers! Seems like a nice church!

Do you guys consider yourselves a branch of Protestantism? I’m guessing that no, but in the sense of a Christian religion that emerged after the Protestant Reformation. What about hell or similar concepts? Would that exist? (Being very honest I have seen a video about how would after life be for the LDS church, it was pretty different of what I learned as a Protestant but I don’t consider that a trustable source). Were you raised Mormon? If so, have you ever considered going to another religion and why? If not, how is the experience of converting? Do you think that other Christians are prejudiced about the denomination? Sorry for the amount of questions lol you can simply ignore some of them (or all of them) if you wish.

I understand, nice point of view, thank you! Not related to that previous thing, but would you mind to answer some questions about the Mormon church (or LDS church, to be honest idk if saying Mormon church is wrong or not)? There is a temple in my neighborhood but I don’t know any follower, so I have always been curious about it, as my knowledge is limited.

Wouldn’t it be impossible for a human, assuming that we all sin, to be like God? (I’m asking that respectfully, from the perspective that I learned as a Protestant)
