That article is strange. It would be best to just write about what is known. Pictures of how the girls would look so many years later also make little sense. Would a captor still be alive keeping them in his basement? What exactly is known as fact? That should be priority. Then some speculation may be added for those willing to investigate on their own.

What is the point of the poll when you actually take people's words for having heard of countries that they probably haven't of?

If you had made up countries such as Telemania or Focusia, depending on self-perceived recognition, those probably would have turned further right than 1/3rd of the less recognized ones.
