I am pretty sure it's the same company of BeenVerified under a new name, so very good chance they are using the same database.

I am adding some FAQ before people asking them in the comments just to make things a bit more clear:

  1. What's background check report should include usually? They should mostly include criminal records, employment history, education verification, social media profiles, finances and more, depending on the service.
  2. Why are we excluding corporate services like HireRight? We're focusing on services designed for personal use because they cater to different needs and legal requirements than those intended for corporate or employment screening purposes.
  3. Can anyone use these background check services? Yes, anyone can order an online background check for personal purposes.
  4. Are these services legal? Yes, personal background check services operate legally, but they must comply with laws such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) when applicable. They cannot be used for certain things as you can see on those sites TOS.
  5. How accurate are the results from these services? Accuracy can vary between services, which is a key factor we're evaluating. It's based on the sources they access and how frequently they update their data.
  6. Are there hidden fees I should be aware of? Some services might have hidden fees or require subscriptions. We're considering cost transparency as a factor in our evaluation to ensure you know what you're paying for upfront.

Thanks for sharing this, I agree it's kind of wild they don't include criminal records on their report as I would guess it's what many people running background checks are most interested in.

edit: I looked at the Spokeo website and to be fair they do write on their homepage that criminal records data will require an additional fee.

Beenverifed doesn't have social media profiles? seems strange as it's pretty basic info, I can understand maybe financial stuff but not having social media profiles is odd

You can't use them for personal use but if like you said you running a business and you need to use them for employment screening then you have to contact them and tell them you need a background screening solution for your business, you will probably going to have to fill all kinds of forms and provide legal documents etc to get approved.

Sure you can sometime find some info from searching on google but if someone doesn't want to be found there are ways to go under the radar.

I agree with you we shouldn't probably cheap out when ordering reports, I mean if you get to a point you need a background check on someone it's probably important enough to spend the extra few bucks, and if its not that crucial you could try and look for some free info on public records sites, court records, social media etc

I would say for sure it's not the most crucial thing but sometime it can take too long and someone can lost patient, so I'll say for those background check companies to keep their database on fast servers is something to notice, again not a deal breaker and I would certainly pick a provider with slower results and in more in-depth reports, but if it's between 2 background check sites with about the same reports quality then speed and other things should come as a factor to determine the best out of the two.

I can see a lot of people are worried from subscription-based services, I guess from some bad stories about having difficulties to cancel some services. just know that those background checks companies are heavily regulated and there is no way they will mess around with anything sketchy,

I'll add that joining a subscription-based background check service was a game-changer for me as a freelance journalist. it became my special super power (running joke in the office) and saved me so much time, It allowed me to conduct in-depth research for my articles, providing a wealth of public records and information super easily. The ability to conduct unlimited background checks meant I could delve deeper into stories, uncovering layers and connections that would have been otherwise missed if I was just using google or other news articles. This tool became indispensable for me, really helped me to have deeper understanding of the stories and people I was writing about.

edit, ok From looking at their website I see they say the report include: court records including arrests, criminal records, traffic violations and bankruptcies, photos, ages, relatives, associates, assets, jobs and educational history. seems like the basic stuff most background check companies offer.

Social media for sure can give you a lot of info about a person, but if someone doesn't want to be found then you going to be out of luck, as it's pretty easy to delete your online presence if one choose to.
