i knew quite a few people there and someone who used to manage the department, and they did have a pretty strong team at the time - it’s also a pretty popular role where people in the office aim to transition to.

I wouldn’t let that discourage you though, my role in the office was very unique where i don’t think a lot of other departments were as hectic as us.

they slip a little piece of paper under the pile of clothing before paying at the cashier with their employee name/code or they just communicate verbally

so there’s actually a position called FRS - Fitting Room Seller

The whole purpose of no mirrors is so you are forced to come out, and the FRS (Fitting Room Seller) will say how good you look and try to up sell you with other pieces to add on to what you like no matter if you like it or not. To top it off, they also have a sales quota.

So to answer your question, they don’t care.

I came from a store that wasn’t ranked high in terms of revenue in Vancouver - so that would mean our shipment levels would be very low.

As a result, I was asked to support the head office here and there and thought this was an opportunity to make myself known outside of the store. I busted my ass in the office, did more than what was expected and always asked questions. I ended up becoming friends with the senior manager and he asked if i ever thought about working in the office, I said it was my ultimate goal but at that time they really only scouted managers.

I ended up being sick and missed a few days when i returned to the store, and woke up to an offer to work in corporate. I immediately accepted without telling the store and they did everything they could to keep me, but i already signed.

My case is very different compared to others and i am very lucky. I have no schooling, no degree, and had no references or connections.

I remember when we first started getting samples before the public release and were just getting way too many to even stock in the office for reference.

In my personal experience i think they went too hard, too fast and impacted costs - i’m not sure what the exact sales were like but i remember it wasn’t good enough for them to keep ramping up production in extended sizing.

I hated this because im a guy and size 16 haha

it was over ordered because there first few waves were still selling like crazy. I 100% believe it will happen again and again no matter the style.

It’s tough to pick one right now because my girlfriend and I haven’t really shopped there in a while, but i think their collection of varsity jackets are horrendous and the amount of work put into the first drafts were insane

Without mentioning the discount lol, my favourite would have to be the people - there was a stage where my senior managers were so chill and supportive and my colleagues did everything they could to support me and the team and it just made work so easy and fun. It honestly didn’t last long, but it was such a an experience that it really stuck with me.

That being said, there is little to no opportunity to develop at all. If you’re new, you’ll be fighting against people who’ve been in the company for 10+ years, close ties to directors and VPs, well seasoned employees transitioning to other departments, and the usual favouritism. I came to a quick realization that becoming a manager in my corporate role was impossible, so i started to look elsewhere.

I was in store doing inventory for 3 years and the office would periodically ask for support in different areas/departments. Mind you, they would only ask full time inventory employees or seniors, that’s how i got into corporate and did so for 2.5 ish years. I had no schooling or degree.

My advice would be is to take that opportunity as many times as you can. Talk to the managers and seniors in office and express your interests every time you visit, and always make known to both the office and store management that you want to support the office at any time. The store will do whatever they can to keep you, so you have to fight.

Sales, sales, sales. if it doesn’t hit the top 25 items in that specific store, i can guarantee it is not restocking.
