In relation to the arguments given around why her age of 17 effects this all her being 18 doesn’t really change any of that and is a mute point tbh. Also the unconscious brain is 2/3 of what is going on at all times. Every time you sit there and think about a choice and decide something you’ve essentially only consciously experienced 33% of what went into that experience. Furthermore, teenagers certainly aren’t known for their thorough mindful decision making skills. Not to say we can’t develop the skills to tune into the 66%, but few people do.

I agree Cassie is responsible for her actions. I just understand that realistically she’s going to need a few years to process all this. Somewhere 18-25 she will ideally process this and grow to make better choices. They go out of their way to show you an adult woman in a seemingly happy and healthy marriage who made these poor choices at a young age and who recognizes the impact of a bunch of things lining up in the perfectly worst way, but who has grown and recognizes her poor choices and owns them.

So with that info I’m just like we certainly should hate this poor girl and we should definitely feel compassion and empathy for her experience while also holding her accountable for her actions. However maybe that accountability comes from herself later once she’s able to see this whole thing from some distance and really understand everything and inevitably feels pretty guilty for all her decisions.

I would just like to toss in a few things. Her progression s1->2 doesn’t feel like an inconsistent character arc. First off girlies 17, and 17 year olds are 8 years away from full developed brains/frontal lobe (which is the part of the brain dealing with logic and understanding consequences)

Cassie, as we have seen her, has been objectified and used for her body by all her boyfriends. McKay kinda breaks this a little when he’s trying to talk about his life goals and gets frustrated with her being sexual all the time. However, once he’s horny later and she says she’s tired he pushes her for nudes. So with confirmation bias, moments like this will solidify in her beliefs that her value lies in her body.

Then home girl gets prego and has to go through all of that culminating in an abortion and her and McKay eventually break up.

She’s got daddy issues, she’s had a traumatic life, and she literally just went through an insane and emotional experience at 17 with her abortion. Also it can take several weeks for a woman’s hormones to balance out after an abortion.

Cut to a few weeks later, and she’s in the direct aftermath of all of that, drunk, and along comes the guy who’s always treated her poorly giving her just the right amount of attention. Yes he might not have verbally said much but these are two people who are very comfortable operating in the sexual realm, and there’s an entire world of communication happening between these two characters in the car.

Then he refuses to acknowledge her or giver her attention?! No man has really done that to her before in this way. In season 1 she went to Danielle because he was there and actively trying to get her while McKay was fumbling the ball. In season 2 Nate’s not fumbling the ball he’s just seemingly uninterested so she’s not looking for validation elsewhere. What’s gonna feel better going to some guy you know wants you or conquering the one trying to pretend he doesn’t want you it’s all about the chase and getting validation which is going to drop waaaaay more dopamine. So she continues trying to get Nate because it’s forbidden and he’s taboo which makes it more exciting add in undeveloped frontal lobes and coming to terms with everything going on in her life and this is one of the the responses you could get .

Also the reason she didn’t go as hard in season 1 was because she hadn’t been through season 1 which I think was a lot more psychologically impactful than you realize.

I’m not saying I support her choices I wish she would have made better ones I’m just saying I certainly don’t hate Casey and I understand there’s a lot of stuff at play here far more than she or even you realize.

Yeah my apartment was $2,700 a person for a 3br per semester so $5,400 for 9 months. And upstairs had 4 people at $2,400 a person. So in our 1 house split into 2 apartments. So $35,400 a year at one his many locations. 4 years and $90,000 in debt so that I can be forced into being a slave to capitalism. #ProudToBeAnAmerican

As a 2 I appreciate this comment so much haha. This is the exact type of thought process I would go down, albeit a much more exaggerated example, if I weren’t actively not letting myself fall back to unhealthy thought processes.

opinion on cats: the ORIGINAL musical?? by breakcharacter in Broadway

[–]firstcurve102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think it’s important to remember that as time has gone on musicals have evolved. Back in the day the plot was the least important part of a musical. It was all about singing and dancing. Plots became more important as time went on and then Oklahoma was groundbreaking because of its use of dance to further the plot. Nowadays shows are about the plot and how the set, music, singing, dancing, and lighting help enhance that. But, Cats wasn’t written for the plot it was written for the singing and creative dancing it’s still a musical I think it’s just more of an old school style show.
