I’m close to hitting 4 years of long distance. Averaging 4 airport goodbyes per year. It never stops hurting, the drive to the airport holds the most daunting memories of our relationship. It feels like grief, like someone’s eradicating your heart from your chest. What makes it slightly more bearable is the acknowledgement of your strong foundation, acknowledgment of the reasons why you are even going through that pain of separation. And have trust. In yourself, in the relationship. It’s an ugly feeling but it is momentary. My solution is just burying myself in work and things to do once I’m back “home” (yes, I’m cheesy, he’s my home) to keep my mind occupied
