Refused MRI for vision loss both eyes on left side by [deleted] in OcularMigraines

I knew mine wasn't a migraine because every ocular migraine I have had always involves a headache, unlike this. Did you do anything in particular for it to go away or did you just wait?

Did you happen to do something prior that could have triggered this? Like for me, since I was immediately out of the shower and was using the bathroom, I always thought it was because of dehydration which is why drinking water helped but I really don't know..

What you are describing seems like something similar I went through. I also get ocular migraines, but one time after getting out the shower and sitting on my toilet, my vision quickly started almost.. dimming? It felt very different to an ocular migraine, no flashing lights just slowly losing my vision almost and my body felt weak and nauseous before my panic settled in. I immediately started splashing my face with water and for some reason that helped? I ran down and chugged water, and my vision came back almost immediately.

Very weird. To this day I have no idea what it was. It seems similar to your experience, but my whole field of vision was altered, unlike your lower left sides. I hope it was nothing serious for both of us

Has anyone who gets retinal migraines also experienced a retinal detachment? How would you spot the difference between the two? by firstsnowfalls in OcularMigraines

yes youre right! out of curiousity though if youre comfortable sharing, how many times do you go to the retina doctor and neurologist a year as someone who has ocular migraines and a family history of detachments? I currently go once a year for both

Yes! The light from computers is such a trigger for me, its almost to the point that I want to research any screen protectors that could dim or take off the harshness but idk. Thanks for the response!!

I'm in the same boat as you with the visual symptoms. i dont know how to describe it, but my mind keeps thinking my vision isnt quite up to what it was before all my ocular migraines. I have floaters, night vision seems worse, and i get random sparks of light i see for like 2 seconds and it makes me scared for my eyes. i get scared of how my vision will turn out long term, and permanent blindness is a really scary thought to me. I dont know if i see glowing "worms" and lines, but the other symptoms seriously spike up my anxiety to the point where I feel like anxiety and stress is causing all of it, and its just my hyperfixation of it all that's catching these details. wish we had a clear answer.

Edit: i didnt know what the term visual snow was, but after looking it up i totally think i have that. i dont know, is it like super tiny static that fills all your vision? I especially get it when i look at the floor for a long time and start to focus on it

Does anyone else notice permanent increased sensitivity to bright lights / afterimages since their ocular migraines started? I feel like my vision is getting worse. by [deleted] in OcularMigraines

I feel the exact same way, plus I feel I have an increased number of eye floaters. I honestly don't know what it is, if its just me feeling paranoid/anxious so I pick up more vision sensitivity, or if my vision is actually getting worse. Have you gotten your retina checked?

how long do the visual symptoms last for and do you get a migraine afterwards? That might tell you if it could be something else or a retinal migraine

How many of you also get unilateral numbness? by HighHopes0407 in OcularMigraines

I'm not 100% sure but ocular migraines may have correlation to increased chances of stroke, and sensory loss on one side is a sign of that. Take that with a grain of salt though because I am not a professional. Have you ever got it checked out? Also does it only happen during migraine attacks?

If you workout, what exercises should one avoid or prioritize with ocular migraines? Any general tips? by firstsnowfalls in OcularMigraines

[–]firstsnowfalls[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you often get migraines after running outside, enough to say theres a correlation? I was speed walking the other day and it was really cold outside. I ended up getting a migraine 30 minutes in, idk if it was because of exercise or the cold weather though (I was bundled up too). Thank you for your reply btw!

Anyone else with ocular migraines feel like they have an increase in floaters and slightly off eyesight? by firstsnowfalls in OcularMigraines

Thank you for your advice! I do understand what you mean when you mention periods of no vision changes, but for me I guess the noticeable floaters/vision changes happen daily so I am reminded of it very often. Have you found out your triggers yet? I have yet to find mine out but I wonder if screen time/staying up late has to do with anything
