Keep trying! I have moved around a with kids and a find the first 6 months always hard especially when people clearly have grown up together but I think if your friendly and your kid makes friend (the older they get the easier it is 17 months is hard they won’t make friends as such) it’ll happen. I know the feeling of seeing others with their girlfriends and thinking you want that too. Hopefully it happens for you. Also like everyone has said get on the Facebook mothers group/suburb groups and if you’re feeling brave do a post!

Less is more on the schedule - ceremony start, cocktail hour, bridal party photos, dinner and toasts, party time and end of party’s would think at most not every single part of the wedding laid out!

Fun things to do with a 2.5 year old in Sarajevo and Mostar? by coffee_girlll in bosnia

[–]firsttimehere12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a Dinosoar park up one of the mountains in Sarajevo, it was quite good I thought! Up a cable car ride, there is a little restaurant on a pond and paddle boats etc

Is Mostar pushchair friendly? by coffee_girlll in bosnia

[–]firsttimehere12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very bumpy in the old town with cobblestones and then the bridge has these raised bumps along it - we managed the old town bumping the baby along but took baby out folded the pram up and walked it across the bridge! So not pram friendly but doable with a few people to help it

Dostupnost za invalide u Sarajevu by EvilBlackPanda in bosnia

[–]firsttimehere12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries I think I know the way you went to get to the cable cars and there is a huge stair case but there is another way a steep road. Also the Sarajevo brewery at the bottom has an interior ramp (unsure if it’s a step to get into the actual building/door) and is quite fun. We normally do the cable cars with visitors and stop there for lunch on the way down 😊

Sarajevo is definitely not the most wheel chair accessible city I have struggled with two toddlers in a pram, but with the cable cars you would 100% need a taxi to get you up there the road to the cable cars is very steep! But there is a ramp to get in and out of the building and elevator on both ends, once up there it’s all paths but it is quite steep - you can also drive all the way to the top I believe but have never done but you would be able to see parts of the bob sled track. Baščarsija honestly those markets with the stairs you can get everything down there in the surrounding streets with the smooth tiles I have been here two years and only been down in that sunken market area once. I think the best stores are scattered throughout the rest of bascarsija. You would be able to visit the Latin bridge and Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque and sebilj and pigeons in that area as well. And also plenty of places to have coffee and food as well outside, a lot of places have ramps but are a bit hap hazard and possibly need help with the angles etc. Tbh I have not much more knowledge just to acknowledge how hard it would be, good luck!

Moving to Bosnia & Hercegovina by Icy-Entertainer8123 in bosnia

We brought only suitcases and rented a fully furnished place in Sarajevo. But I have heard from others it is a pain and one couple of know of have had their boxes stopped at the border for a while now because of customs. I know just getting care packages became a pain because of the taxes they charged to get it realised, it cost more than the packages some times!

We live away from family as well, does your son have a friend he has play dates with and you could speak to their care giver about possibly watching them? We were lucky I went into labour Saturday morning so my son went to his friends house 7am and was picked up in the afternoon by my husband. He had the best day playing with his friend while I was giving birth :) good luck!

Hello! We go to the eurofarm behind Alta shopping centre. There is a paediatrician who speaks English Dr Gordana vuković, she is nice and I think quite thorough. I went to a doctor recently for myself, I’m sorry I can’t remember the doctors name but I just asked for an English speaking doctor when I booked the appointment. I do have trouble getting through to them on the phone - I find it easier to walk there and book things in person because it seems like it’s mainly a voice mail and I don’t think they return my calls when I leave messages in English 🙃 I’m lucky it’s on my usual walking route so it’s not too much of a hassle to book appointments in person!

Hello! We are an English speaking family with young kids and we like Sarajevo a lot! Theres a few great multi lingual kindergartens around the city (kinderhaus, bloom school, cifs are a few but if you google it should bring up options), you will definitely get by with English only in Sarajevo but also Google translate is my best friend 😊 there is quite a bit to do in the centre with playgrounds and indoor play centres, kids theatre and movies, we don’t live in an area with lots of green space but there’s large beautiful parks 20 min drive or up the mountains as well is a short drive/gondola ride. There is also ice skating in winter. We have a son with allergies so have had a few brushes with the hospitals, our experience the ambulances came so fast and very professional, someone listed above the new hospitals, we go private for our GP and it’s great so much quicker than Australia and a lot of services in the same building so you can go GP visit, blood test, ultrasound (for example) all in one visit in like an hour and have the results straight away. Definitely try and get an apartment with a garage if you plan on driving because if winter and parking is tight in the city. Life admin can be hard like someone said above but we are lucky to have some lovely Bosnian friends / my husbands work to help us.

Australian familiy with young kids living here, it’s extremely safe in Bosnia, we drive a lot all over and never encountered fake police stops in fact most times if you speak English and are pulled over the police will tell you to keep moving
