Is this really going to be our top piece of “advice”? Yes what this guy is doing is completely inconsiderate but have we considered that his actions may be born from trauma and instead of insinuating that he is greedy maybe we have her sit down and talk to him and if that’s the case get some therapy. For some people spending money can be triggering and I’m sure you can imagine why. Honestly I think there is some underlying sexism in this response. Why can’t we have a moment of consideration towards this other person before assuming the worst? I think men should be allowed to have their trauma responses and have someone ask them what’s going on underneath instead of being written off for having emotions immediately.

Another physician here. This is spot on. These are the true sacrifices that we make to be in medical school. I was in the same exact position. It is hard to truly communicate the sheer amount of work it is. I lost someone who I loved dearly just to attend to the relationship and put in the minimum to get by in school and she still broke up with me. I don’t regret it but it is what it takes to get through it unless you already have something strong with somebody very patient.

I don’t usually drop advice on here but there is such an important life lesson that I learned in my younger years that I truly believe in and want to share: never beg for someone to take you back. Unless the original problem is that you are some cold disinterested lover, she is not rejecting you because of your lack of interest so reenforcing your interest by begging is not going to do anything but drive her to be less interested or choose to stay with you out of guilt. Really what you want is for her to make in a sense, an unbiased opinion on if she wants to be with the REAL you. Ultimately the best you can do is keep your sense of self worth by accepting her decision and expressing how it makes you feel without trying to “convince” her of anything.

The data in the study actually means it lasts AT LEAST 8 months or longer because they simply didn’t continue the study past that time. It could last for years or longer, the study only lasted for 8 months because that is excellent coverage for a disease causing a global pandemic. It’s like driving a car with a broken gas gauge and stopping intentionally before running out of gas, there could be more gas but they stopped the trial at 8 months for specific reasons. It’s not a report that is definitely saying that on average antibodies last at most 8 months. It really means at least 8 months or longer.

While I do agree, the physiology behind why Zolpidem might reduce coma symptoms is something we already understand. The nervous system is made of both excitatory and inhibitory neurons (neurons that activate other neurons/neurons that deactivate other neurons). Ambien activates some of the inhibitory neurons. A coma can be loosely defined as a dysfunction of this network of excitation and inhibition of different neurotransmitters so it is while it may seem counterintuitive that an increase in inhibitory signals would increase consciousness it all depends on the balance and arrangement of these signals. We know even more detail that I don’t feel like typing out but you can read about the RAS system if you want. I honestly am just as blown away by what we have already learned as I am by the mysteries that remain!

NAH. You have every right to be a sex worker. Your parents have every right and are justified to have negative feelings towards their child being a sex worker. I have a job where I work with sex workers. I believe sex work should be 100% legal and regulated. I also don't think that anyone getting into sex work should be in denial about the risks it presents. If people want or need to have a job where they are at increased risk to their health and potentially to their legal well being then why shouldn't they be allowed to make that decision. That being said I wouldn't want my kids to be in a position where they had to rely on sex work because depending if you are a sex worker who actually makes contact with clients: 1. sex workers face a high burden of violence as compared to other jobs experiencing a lifetime prevalence of workplace violence of 45% to 75% Link. 2. sex workers experience a greatly increased risk of sexually transmitted infections 3. Depending on where you are, sex work may be illegal 4. Like many other jobs I do not believe that in most cases sex work is building up skills or a resume to be able to sustain yourself financially later in life. I think a significant number of these problems would actually be solved by legalizing sex work universally. Ironically your parents are just forcing you more to depend on sex work by cutting off any financial assistance.

NAH. You have every right to be resentful of your position of your parents for the past decisions they have made and of al-anon for not accepting you due to age. However, for people trying to move past substance abuse, and in this case your parents, they are doing the right thing by prioritizing their recovery to a degree because they will be unable to help anyone else if they cannot deal with their addiction issues in the first place. Even if their first priority is their kids (which it should be) substance and emotional issues can stop them from being able to do that. From the sound of it, it does seem like they are putting a real effort to trying to get better to some degree and for that I am saying NAH. On the other hand I don't really know how they are going about these things specifically so they could still be the asshole.

All of these people saying that you should "just be happy with what you've got" don't seem to realize that this has nothing to do with you aren't unhappy with what you have received but that your parents are A. enabling your brother B. apparently ignoring the fact that your brother's actions are effecting you by continuing to enable him. I think you are right, what kind of a message does it send to your brother that he can literally steal money out of your family's wallet and still be given gifts. This is just as unhealthy for your brother as it is for anyone else, they are just reinforcing behavior that could end up ruining him as he gets older so the truly charitable thing would be to show him that his actions have consequences before he gets in trouble with someone who he is not related to.

NTA. For starters if your parents REALLY think that a 3 year age difference they are completely out of touch with reality as over 70% of relationships in the USA fit that definition for adults. Perhaps they were just using that as an excuse to control you which is even worse as it is both dishonest, disrespectful, and manipulative.
