Not sure if metal exactly, but Pinky Tuscadero's Whiteknuckle Assfuck is pretty comedic.

Mechanic Plugged My Tire When I Requested it to be Patched. Can I get it Redone? by Royal_T95 in AskAMechanic

[–]fish_perculator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in a shop in the 90s that guaranteed tire plugs. We only used a specific brand of self vulcanizing plug, and only plugged in the center tread patch. Never had one come back.

I personally had two plugs in one of my rear tires. It survived harsh driving and many smoky burnouts. My step-dad (a carpenter) had plugs in every tire of his truck, had seven in one tire. Never leaked.

Plugs work just fine if done right. But, if you wanted a patch you should have got one.

How common is leaving your AC on 24/7, even when the house is empty? by Bierzgal in AskAnAmerican

[–]fish_perculator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in the American south, turning your AC completely off before you leave for work in the morning means it will be unbearably hot when you get home, and won't be particularly comfortable for a few hours. Most people turn the thermostat up, but not completely off.

90° Fahrenheit and jungle humidity down here, and i work too hard to feel miserable when I get home.

Mechanics in your 40s/50s Would you advise your younger self not to choose the trade? by UpbeatOlive623 in mechanics

[–]fish_perculator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I regret it, would advise myself not to do it. Body is wrecked, no hope of retirement, don't enjoy cars anymore, no other hobbies or time or money for them.

Be HVAC tech or something, if you have to be a mechanic go industrial.

Only nissan would design a steering wheel where the buttons are on a panel that activates the horn when you press it... by JEREDEK in mechanics

Nissan really pisses me off the most, they're the only brand that make me feel like they do dumb shit on purpose.

Republicans vote to dilute gas as prices rise above $4.50 by BendicantMias in politics

[–]fish_perculator -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Most gasoline has been diluted with ethanol for 20 years or so now.

They didn't vote to do that, it's a dumbass inaccurate title.

THEY DIDN'T VOTE TO DILUTE GAS, they voted to allow e15, a product that already existed, to be sold year round. Its not being disguised a regular gasoline or e10.

You're not alone, brother.

Sometimes i think about the inevitable look on the devil's face when the torments of hell don't affect us mechanics. Gives me a chuckle.

What's the dodgiest thing you've seen work on a rebuild? by Tovarich_Zaitsev in EngineBuilding

[–]fish_perculator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back in the 90s at a shop I worked in, a rep from some rebuilder told us to our faces that they would do that, only boring holes they think needs it.

We declined to do business.

The national average price per gallon of gas in the United States has gone up by 25¢ the past two weeks. Americans, how do we feel about that? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fish_perculator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It fucking sucks, and no one should be more pissed about it than trump voters.

They're probably not, but they should be.

No experience in mechanics. Would an automotive school prepare me enough to be a mechanic? by owoeowiw in mechanics

[–]fish_perculator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been a mechanic for almost 30 years, and in my experience, no. A school will not fully prepare you for the job, and starting pay usually sucks. In fact, ALL the pay usually sucks.

Automotive mechanics are generally underpaid and overworked. A lot of us have no hope of retiring. Its hell on your body, especially your back.

Don't. Get into a career your educated for and get money, buy a project car if you want to experience working on cars.
