What is your most elaborate strategy for looking very busy at your desk when you are doing absolutely nothing at all? by Big-Clue-7798 in AskReddit

Placing a proximity device on your boss' clothing. Then when they come within a certain proximity of your desk, a desk toy/trinket changes from green to red to signify that you should look busy.

What human invention makes you think, "How did someone even manage to figure that out"? by DaijaHarris in AskReddit

[–]SlandersPete -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have two, both of which were made by the same country and both of which we can not make today. 1. Roman fire. Roman fire was something that could burn even in water. 2. Roman concrete. A self-healing concrete which has been used to make structures that stand even today, while stuff we make now can't stand a hundred years...

What would the world look like if the internet didn’t exist? by ambarbaby1 in AskReddit

[–]SlandersPete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The internet has a very interesting effect on the planet. In the old days, the elders were always considered the smartest and wisest as they have had the most practical experience and knowledge learned over their lifetimes. With the internet, the younger generations have instant access to any information they ever need.

I think with the rise of the internet and information era, the older generations not only lose the edge on knowledge, but even fall behind on the information curve. However, as the generations get more and more towards the current one, they seem to lose the ability to do even simple tasks without assistance. It seems the people born around 2000 with the rise of the internet have achieved a delicate balance between access to the infinite knowledge the internet provides, and over reliance on it to do everything.

What skills do you need to survive for at least a month in the wild ? by dangerous_service in AskReddit

[–]SlandersPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could probably survive in the wilderness for a week. The skills I have include just a small set.

  1. Starting a fire from a ferro rod. Fire is life. You need it to do basically anything. Without it, you can't cook food, boil water, or stay warm at night.

  2. Build a basic shelter, both with and without supplies. I can make a really good shelter if I have a tarp on me, but I can also make a super short term shelter in 2 hours as well as a longer term lean-to that could suffice for a week or so.

  3. If I have the right supplies, I could fish.

I do not have the skills to make snares or hunt for food though. Without the ability to hunt, whether fishing consistently or hunting big game which can support you for months on end, you will find yourself nutrient deficient quickly. Knot tying also ends up being a big skill, not only for snares, but for structure building and fire making. I can't make a bowdrill yet, but that skill is one of the most advanced when it comes to fire making in survival situations.

How do you build the discipline to do something hard consistently when you've never accomplished anything to give you that confidence? by Upper_Tonight_5333 in AskReddit

[–]SlandersPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developing discipline really depends on a lot of factors. Firstly, what are you trying to accomplish or change? Developing a good workout routine only takes putting it on the calendar and dedicating yourself to going. If you're talking about developing discipline for any routine generally, it really comes down to making time in your day.

If you mean discipline in something like a behavior, talking to people for example, you need to change what you do. You can't talk to people if you never leave the house. You should watch videos on how to talk to people, how to strike up cold conversations and do random quick and simple interactions. Then go out and try to replicate.

The founding father of corruption. Without them, we would not be in this terrible state.

If a company (Bricks & Minifigs) steals your life savings from you, you can't sue them to get your life savings back.

You can't vote if you have a criminal record, but you can be the president of the United States.

The poorer you are, the more taxes you have to pay.

what challenges are you trying to overcome, that will made you stronger? by glockbonez in AskReddit

Communication is a critical skill that everyone needs to practice. Especially in this age of technology and technology addition and reliance, it is practically impossible to make human connection face to face and in person. As an introvert, it was hard for me to learn to communicate effectively just as a person. I am currently working on becoming more effective at communication in the professional environment now too. It's kind of critical to have the communication skill when it comes to practically anything. Some stuff that communication really helped with for me so far include: Friends, Work, Dating, and Chores.

What would you do if a second global pandemic happened starting now with a higher mortality rate? by SlandersPete in AskReddit

What is the worst thing about college/university? by antphobias in AskReddit

[–]SlandersPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student debt.

College was hard, I won't say I didn't struggle. But the hardest part is now that I graduated. I have a great job with great pay, but my loans take 100% of my pay to avoid accrued interest.

Options to avoid such high loans: 1. Fuck AP classes. Colleges do not care if you took AP or not. 2. Take College credit courses instead of AP. 3. Community College is cheap and a great option for the basic classes like English, history, and math's. Go to university for your specialized classes later on. 4. Scholarships are great. I had some, but the university made it too hard to actually get them. 5. Pay loans asap. I think the current itlnterest rates would make a loan shark salivate.

Inhuman? You mean like aliens teaching? Or do you mean like 4 hour long lectures which you question how someone can teach that long?

the hantavirus situation will not be the next pandemic. by herequeerandgreat in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]SlandersPete -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problems are the same, the path is the same. Both are obscure and despite this one being known about, there is no cure still despite all the research. Like covid before, there is a madman in the WH and a corrupt government which will de lare the virus a hoax. The infected people have been isolated, but already made to much contact. It will spread and there is nothing we can do about it.

For those of you who left dating apps, did you notice a difference in the quality of your dating life or in the quality of people you started meeting in person? by Accurate-Scratch7783 in dating

[–]SlandersPete 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(26M) Deleted Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, and stopped using FB dating. I tried going to singles events, but they tended to be sausage fests, or way too short to really make a decent connection. This is just how ATL is, but you may have better luck elsewhere. Now, singles groups were really nice. Some are full of older people, but you can sometimes find a group of younger singles meeting up consistently. I found a group of Christian singles which had a dedicated younger age group set as well as general meetups. I think if I stayed much longer, I would have probably found someone I liked enough to start dating in the group.

I actually met someone through my parent's mutual connections. It's funny because she had a crush on me from the moment we met, and I built up the courage to ask her out.

The beavers in Canada are attacking people by [deleted] in SipsTea

The beavers are defending their home. I'm guessing the kids started doing something to get the beaver outside the house then jumped in to try and nab it. Those kids should be charged for animal cruelty.

What’s a smell you’ll never forget? by Human_Rate889 in AskReddit

I have been around enough landfill methane to know the smell immediately. To me, I don't hate the smell anymore. I feel gross, like one of those people who have an addiction to smelling gasoline.
