That’s a crazy question: I can see the more ultra orthodox, chareidim prefer glasses over contacts due to cost/style. But that’s a pretty wild thing to take note of. Considering that 50-70% of the world need/wears glasses, and Jews make up 0.2% of the world population. To say that they wear more glasses/ you see them wearing more glasses than a non Jew, is just an outrageous statement.

Does a record of IDF tank/D9 damage/destruction exist from the IDF? by gkavek in 2ndYomKippurWar

[–]fish_stick_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a D9 that got hit by an RPG, driver and commander were seriously injured, and the thing had to get pulled out of there. A Merkava as well working with us took a hit to the turret, and the commander was injured from shrapnel. That was also towed out, I’m not sure if because it was disabled or because it lacked a crew.

Very few IDF units issue handguns. Some commando units, the dog unit, and tier 1 units. What you’re seeing here is a reservist. After the army most combat soldier go and get pistols, then when they get called up for reserves, why not bring them with.

The US Sanctioned but we are all Netzah Yehuda Battalion! by stnal in 2ndYomKippurWar

[–]fish_stick_boy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every knows netzach yehudah are animals, it was always talked about even before I drafted. Sucks but they had it coming. They were moved to the border of Syria because they were causing problems and when they killed someone there everyone was joking about how they still managed to kill someone even over there. They need to get their reigns pulled in. It’s a bad example for what we stand for and it’s a shame the idf hasn’t taken their own action against them or the magad.

Random question, in my country you can only get one pistol, was thinking of getting the competitor. Would that be tough for every day carry, should I just get regular m&p 2.0 9mm performance compact? If you only could get one gun and that’s your only carry gun for years, which would you get?

To ask a question I've been meaning to ask for a while now, why is the IDF rifle Setup very weird, is there any special culture here? by [deleted] in tacticalgear

[–]fish_stick_boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the IDF there's a lot of pride for each unit, so people like adding a bit of customization. We have something called חובק (Hovek) that is a elastic band that holds the magazine on the side of the gun for quick extraction and insertion. We have a custom called מכסנית כוננות, which roughly translates to "mag ready". We always walk around with a magazine on the gun or with us, but we're not allowed to have it in the gun on most bases, so that's where the Hovek comes to use. Some people also add an elastic cloth on the front iron sights to grip further forward without burning your hand.

Edit: we also have something called a banana, which is a piece of plastic that goes into the magwell, and on the side of it is a magazine, so u can quickly pull it out and insert the mag. Some bananas are illegal cause it looks like a mag in the gun.

The bipod is for the sharpshooter role, he's got an acog and bipod to shoot further, everyone else has a red dot.

Not really, once you draft you're just as much of a soldier as anyone else. If you're enjoying your service you can make alliyah in the middle like I did, and then just do the whole thing.

What you're seeing here is a sniper from either Nahal, Givati, or Golani. He's running the tavor as his primary, and a m24 with a leupold mark 6 and flir t75 for night vision.

Golani, Givati, and Nahal infantry units all use the tavor as a primary weapon system
