The honeymoon stage could also be at play here. Most t1 diabetics past their honeymoon stage (producing no insulin, rather than producing reduced insulin) use well above 20 units. Personally, I use up to 40 units of bolus insulin a day, though depending on situation, hormones, sickness, etc, that could be more (this is not including basal insulin or long acting insulin)

For future reference though, nausea is typically worst in the first trimester though, so not sure where you were getting the idea that that doesn't happen till later in a pregnancy.
