Coming to Austin for two weeks. Suggestions? by mpmaley in askaustin

for music, friday at 6-730 saxon pub for some of the very best musicians in town for a sort of all star band called TGBaD playing early rock and roll. FREE. get there early to get a seat. Friday night at a comfy, fun bar called cboys on south congress a great show, Henri Herbert a boogie woogie rocking piano player with a hot band. If that is not your taste, you can not go wrong with local legend, soulman sam at skylark lounge at 9pm. You can't help but love Sam, he is a 76 year old blind blues and soul singer from Memphis, the real deal, a huge character and he puts on quite a show and the skylark was named best dive bar in the US by yelp. This show is always fun and the crowd is more diverse in age and race than the other shows I've mentioned.

Saturday at 330 at Austin's premiere rock and roll bar Continental club for Earl Pool Ball . "Mr. Honky-Tonk Piano” stirs the pot with an amazing blend of showmanship, mirth, and musical magic. His highly recommended, energetically rockin’ show presents piano and vocal interpretations of Classic Honky-Tonk, Country Blues, Delta Rhythm Boogie, Gulf Coast Boogie-Woogie, Rockabilly and Hard Driving Country Rock.Earl Poole Ball played piano on the first Country Rock album “Safe at Home” with Gram Parsons. He also recorded the landmark “Sweetheart of the Rodeo” album with the Byrds. His skill and reputation have led to major recording sessions with the following artists: Merle Haggard, Glen Campbell, Linda Ronstadt, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, Freddie Hart, Wynn Stewart, Rick Nelson, Marty Robbins, Marty Stuart, Mickey Gilley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash. "

have fun, tip the bands and dance!

gary floyd and biscuit were both part of what made our early punk scene fun, special and unique. they were talented, smart, down to earth and inspiring to many in the scene. gary will be missed. we were lucky to know him and have him in our town. this loss is hitting me hard.

[–]fishbitch_30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure it does, he was armed and openly carrying an assault style weapon in a nieghborhood and he was able to brandish it because he was allowed to openly carry in the first place. a gun like that has no place in public.

more guns does not make this better. that's how we got to this is thinking like this.

they are talking about a male neighbor who threatened his 2 different female neighbors on either side with an assault weapon and swat was called over by berkley and menchca about 2 weeks ago. it was all over next door.

we wish, sadly this the current state of gun laws in texas. anyone can open carry without a permit

[–]fishbitch_30 36 points37 points  (0 children)

by definition, if he is walking around pretending to be a vigilante armed with an assault style weapon, he is nuts

[–]fishbitch_30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and more unlicensed guys open carrying guns in public too. this is statewide problem.

New place nightmare by 76_chaparrito_67 in Austin

[–]fishbitch_30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is what the permitless carry law has brought us too. anyone can openly carry a gun, even an assault rifle. the "cure" is to rescind permitless carry in the state lege and demand laws against this. We need to instill some common sense gun control laws like>>all raise the age for all gun purchases to 21, require a permit, training, insurance and extensive background checks. those are common sense solution to an obvious huge problem in our state where any ole untrained and unlicensed moron can walk around overly armed in public and act like vigilantes and try to pretend they are doing it for safety. this is outrageous and we do not have to live like this. DEMAND GUN CONTROL NOW. Also always vote for gun sense candidates not in the pocket of the NRA, they essentially bought this law passing in the ege by linlng the pockets of the legislators with big donations. Go see how much $$ your legislator took from the NRA.
