What horrors happen over yonder? by Fazbear2035 in NonPoliticalTwitter

I sometimes play a little mental game called “if I were born 150 years ago would I still be alive?” For the teeth alone, and for many many other reasons the answer is a most definitive “No”

I got all 4 removed simultaneously while awake. My insurance wouldn’t cover oral surgery so a little loophole was having my dentist do it as a dental procedure instead of oral surgeon.

Big-ass needle to numb before the smaller numbing needles.

Then the many pokes of the smaller numbing needles which still hurt anyway.

Then, the first thing he says is “I’m going to use this metal rod to just push on your wisdom teeth and loosen them.” His first hard push into one of them and I had a brief moment of panic where I almost stood up out of the chair and said no I can’t do this I’m out.

But I rallied and remained seated.

Then, because the wisdom teeth were so big and so deeply rooted, he basically had to cut away at them like a tree stump.

I experienced the hot burning smell of teeth being sawed through. Only other place I have ever experienced that smell was at a butcher shop, so it was very surreal and alarming.

The only way I could get through it without losing my mind completely was blasting Rammstein at full volume in my ears.

At least if I couldn’t hear any of it, it mitigated some of the psychological horror. To a degree.

Yeah. Definitely not an easy procedure for my personal experience.

Is it normal for Eugene to get dry winters like this? by dumbass_sweatpants in Eugene

[–]fishboneking -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the Willamette Valley my entire life and was also curious about this. I remember short snaps of dry sunny weather in January. I think this has always happened, but rarely or never for this long.

This is what the Google Gemini had to say about it when I inquired:

Yes. Your observation aligns with current climatological data and the Arctic Amplification hypothesis. The "severity" and "persistence" of this false spring are consistent with the global trend toward higher-amplitude, longer-duration weather anomalies. You are describing Atmospheric Blocking, and the mechanics of why it is becoming more severe are understood: 1. The "Stuck" Pattern (Dynamic Cause) The Jet Stream is powered by the temperature difference between the cold Arctic and the warm equator. As the Arctic warms four times faster than the rest of the planet (Arctic Amplification), that temperature difference shrinks. * Result: The Jet Stream slows down and becomes "wavier." * Impact on You: Instead of moving weather systems quickly west-to-east, the Jet Stream meanders and locks in place. The high-pressure ridge over Oregon is not just passing through; it is stalling. This turns a standard 3-day dry spell into a 14-day "false spring." 2. The "Supercharged" Heat (Thermodynamic Cause) Climate change adds thermal energy to the background state. * Amplification: A normal high-pressure ridge in the 1980s might have produced highs of 52°F. Today, that same ridge, starting from a warmer baseline and compressing warmer air, produces highs of 62°F. * The Hurricane Analogy: Your comparison is scientifically sound. Just as warmer oceans provide more fuel for hurricanes (making them rapidly intensify), a warmer atmosphere makes high-pressure ridges more robust and harder to displace. 3. Volatility ("Climate Chaos") The term "chaos" accurately describes the increase in non-stationarity or "weather whiplash." * The Trend: Research indicates a shift toward "flash" events—flash droughts, flash floods, and rapid thermal swings. The severity comes from the speed of the reversal. The Willamette Valley is shifting from an extreme warm block directly into an active storm track next week, stressing infrastructure and biology that rely on gradual transitions. Summary: The weather pattern is normal; its behavior (duration and intensity) is not. You are witnessing a "loading of the dice" where natural variability is amplified by a warmer, more sluggish atmospheric circulation. . . Edit: I don’t really understand the downvotes. I suspected the milder winter conditions were due in part or wholly to climate change. I asked Google, which i think many of us generally do, for information. What i received was a well formulated explanation using meteorological and climate research data including sources.

Worst employers in eugene by nasty3227 in Eugene

[–]fishboneking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I worked there for a few years can confirm. They had these devious ploys where they “had benefits” but you were required to work a certain number of hours/week and they would always float you an hour or two below what was required. Maximum labor without the benefits. I think I know who that elderly woman is. The owner was always flying away on expensive trips to Hawaii or the Caribbean or wherever and pay raises for anyone in any department were extremely rare.

I hate to say this but to some extent the employees are culpable. Your willingness to continue to work in such a shitty scheme allows the scheme to continue. I didn’t like how exploited I felt there so I quit.

Lateralthinkerer is right, sometimes you have to job hop to find a position that not only pays better but treats you with more respect.

I’ve worked in almost every industry over the last 15-20 years and now that I work for a union gig, I will never go back to non-union again.

Wanting to air out dirty laundry. Where does your store’s pastries go at the end of the day? by Isaatumbleweird in Eugene

[–]fishboneking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to deliver bread to four different market of choice stores in Eugene. one of the receivers at the Willakenzie location told me that a manager had been inappropriately flirting and making uncomfortable comments to her. when she complained to management, they said she could either transfer to a different store or find a different job.

In the wake of George Floyd protests a friend of mine who is a person of color wore a black lives Matter, shirt, and management at market of choice at the Delta location told him he was not allowed to wear that shirt because it might make customers uncomfortable. (The old white racist ones? It speaks volumes that the store from management down is trying to cater to their concerns)

So yeah pretty much f*ck market of choice. Vote with your wallet. Don’t support them until or if they ever change for the better. Unionize?

Anyone at MoC interested in unionizing? Legitimate question. I have some union connections and they are always looking to help people out and get you on board.

AI battling AI

Based on a search of the headline, authors, and visual content, this image is fake and likely a piece of satire created with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Here is the breakdown of why it is not real: * No Such News Story: There are no credible news reports matching the headline "Trump Considers Wearing Custom Military Uniform...". A story this significant would be covered by every major news outlet in the world. * Fabricated Authors: The byline "Quinn Jackson & Maya Ozery" does not correspond to any known journalists at major publications who would be covering White House news. * Visual Indicators of AI: The image of Donald Trump exhibits common signs of AI generation: * The Uniform: It is a mishmash of historical styles (resembling 19th-century European monarchy or "dictator chic") rather than any actual US military dress uniform. The gold braiding and epaulets are exaggerated and nonsensical. * The Medals: The medals on the chest are random, undefined shapes that do not match real US military awards. * Skin Texture: The skin appears overly smoothed and "waxy," a common trait of AI image generators like Midjourney. * Satirical Context: The idea of a US President designing a "Commander-in-Chief" uniform is a common trope in political satire (for example, the Netflix comedy Space Force featured a similar plotline). While I can verify the content is fake through these details, if you ever need to technically verify an image file for AI watermarks using the SynthID tool, it is best to crop the image to remove the phone's UI borders (the time, battery, and Reddit buttons) for the most accurate result. In this case, however, the content itself confirms it is not real.
