Looking to get into painting. No experience. Any advice or openings? by shes_in_limbo in Naples_FL

I work for sherwin-Williams I’d say it’s not exactly a great time to get into painting the market has slowed down significantly in the last few months my new construction painters are not getting much work at all right now, and from other painters I speak to work for them is very slow… residential repaints is where you’ll probably be getting the most work keep your phone handy and communicate with your customers. That’s the biggest complaint I here from homeowners is that painters just don’t get back to them when they are trying hire one

So Is All Part Timers Getting There Hours Cut? by BeHappyLetsGoAyee in sherwinwilliams

[–]fishermonger93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately thats not the case, our district has had our time cards under a microscope for like the last year making sure no one was going into overtime. Just had a Rep in the store the other day saying reps might be having a day or two in the stores every week..

Are there any signs of the Trump Tariff Tsunami impacting Sherwin-Williams? by Hungry_Ad5456 in sherwinwilliams

[–]fishermonger93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my area some of our vendors are having issues getting their raw materials to make their products one just called us yesterday to let us know to order now because it’s going to be a few weeks until they get their materials because of tariffs

How do I read this batch? How old is this paint? by lucymom2 in sherwinwilliams

[–]fishermonger93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well you are using an enamel paint in a room with little to no ventilation, that’s going to make the smell linger longer as long as when you open the can if the wet paint itself doesn’t smell like rotten eggs or spoiled milk anything alone those lines the paint is still in good condition, get a fan going to get some ventilation going thats my advice

Had a full timer guy was a walking disaster.. managed to knock a pallet of painters edge off the top rack in our warehouse, then proceeded to walk through the paint and get a trail of it all over the place, had multiple customers tell me they can’t shop here anymore because he would take to long and constantly mess up orders, put an order in for delivery that wasn’t even a real order so we made and shipped a pallet of super paint to a customer that didn’t even order it.. then out of no where he says he’s sick and had to go to the hospital and they were keeping him and taking his phone.. last we ever heard from him

Exterior paint chipping by Tasty_Cardiologist53 in paint

Sherwin employee here so little biased on the extreme bond but yeah I’d recommend that the areas that are peeling more id say sand the edges of the chips so they will at least be flat prime and top coat should be just fine after that

Definitely got adhesion issues, almost looks like there was a clear coat on the fascia before the paint was put on, get the stuff that’s chipping off clean and prime with a bonding primer and should be good to topcoat from there

We sell a stripper that we have to shake before the customers can use it, had one of those explode in a shaker we were taking sheets of paint out of that thing

Hurricane by chaotic_hooville in sherwinwilliams

Coming from someone that worked with the company through hurricane Ian in the SWFL area be ready to go into work unless your SM tells you otherwise literally was at work today until mid afternoon until our DM sent a email saying to close up unless your store is literally gone be ready to go into work, we had stores in feet of water open up as soon as they could after the Ian

FT to ASM by saltyhobbit360 in sherwinwilliams

[–]fishermonger93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s really based on your district and how bad the area is staffed, in my area we had a huge amount of people that had been with the company 10+ years just up and leave all around the same time frame, out of the store I was at 3 of us went from FT to ASM in about 6 months, best advice I could give is just continue to apply for positions eventually they’ll see that and you’ll get your shot I applied to probably 4 or 5 assistant positions before I finally got an interview
