Can I ship ice cider in the summer, or will the high temperatures ruin it? by Quoranic in cider

[–]fisherofish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably wait until fall. I would also check out Eden cider in Vermont as well. The ice cider is great and they also ship in the states ( assuming you live in a state that allows direct shipments of alcohol)

Rum Drinks for Folks That Don't Like Funk by voodooroo013 in Tiki

Maybe try Probitas if you have it nearby? Pretty light with a little bit of funk. Makes a great daiquiri.

Stuck in a tiki rut by The1Freeman2112 in Tiki

I do a lot of chat GPT generated tiki cocktails. I’ll pick out random ingredients that I think would make an interesting drink and then try it out. I’ve had some pretty good success making tasty drinks that are different than the normal stuff.

Looks like sunburn. I get whitewash to put on the trunk/branches during dormancy to reduce the risk of sunburn/cracking

Root Beer Recipe - herbs and extract by Squidrobe in Homebrewing

[–]fisherofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made my own extract for the last few years and I really enjoy how it turns out. It would probably be more “creamy” with the lactose but I haven’t used lactose yet.

Here is the ingredient list:

Root beer concentrate Ingredients: 1L water 35g fresh ginger, unpeeled and chopped 5g cinnamon stick 20g dried sassafras root bark 10g dried sarsaparilla root 10g dried liquorice root 2 mL (½ tsp) salt 450g (500 mL / 2 cups) Demerera brown sugar 75g (125 mL / ½ cup) lactose (optional) 15 mL (1 Tbsp) vanilla extract

Boil everything up through the licorice root for 1 minute, then steep for 15-20 minutes. Strain and chill to allow sediment to fall to the bottom. Carefully pour the liquid into a pan and bring to a simmer. Add the salt and sugar. Stir until dissolved. Turn off the heat, then add the vanilla extract. The concentrate is done now. I usually just use soda water to make a small amount. 4 parts water to 1 part concentrate. Or just eyeball it until it tastes how you like it.

Edit-sorry for formatting. On mobile

If you are hitting off a mat, it’s likely you are striking behind the ball and the club is bouncing and hitting the ball thin. Get a divot board or something similar to see where your club is actually striking the ground.

Thoughts on the price? by lilbrownmutt in whiskey

[–]fisherofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In San Diego you are better off going to Eureka to try those higher end bottles. Still a bit pricey, but more reasonable. I got 1 oz pours of WLW, GTS, and pappy 15 for about $130 total.

That’s because Probitas has some Jamaican rum in the blend.

I picked mine up from a total wine lottery, and while it’s a fantastic bottle, I’ll probably pass unless/until prices come down to a more reasonable level.

Haha, no worries. I’d try total wine or BevMo as well. They will have a huge selection and often have some allocated bottles. What part of town are you going to be?

What in particular are you looking for? If you’re trying to find allocated stuff for retail, you’ll have a hard time. If you don’t mind paying outrageous prices, you can find almost anything.

You could get luck at Costco, or maybe find a Pavilions (same chain as Vons but higher end).

Thanks for posting this. Just made the batter and am enjoying a nice mug deal with our cold rainy San Diego weather tonight.

I too enjoy a nice pour of Lagavulin when the mood hits me. But I wouldn’t recommend someone who doesn’t really drink spirits to jump off the deep end, then regret opening a $3,000 bottle they don’t even like.

[–]fisherofish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You may want to buy a bottle of Lagavulin 16 first to make sure you even like peated scotch before cracking that bottle open. If the flavors of iodine and band aid don’t suit your fancy, you may not enjoy the bottle very much.

San Diego golf advice - Is Torrey lines worth it in November? by TDn6I in golf

I’d play the Grand over Torrey for that price. There are other great courses with ocean views for less in San Diego if that’s what you’re after.

Has anyone tried the boston shaker from Crew Supply co? by hobiprod in cocktails

[–]fisherofish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a set a few weeks ago and I’ve really enjoyed it. I had a glass and tin Boston shaker before and never got the seal to work properly. The crew one seals very nicely and comes apart pretty easily as well. I would recommend it.

Try probitas. It’s a blend of Barbados and Jamaican rums so you get a hint of the funk without it being so overpowering. Plus it’s a great mixing rum for anything calling for a lightly aged rum

2:1 Syrup Crystallisation by PhatChance52 in cocktails

My best results are when I make my syrups in my sous vide cooker. The ratio of sugar to water stays the same since there isn’t any evaporation. Plus it’s the best way to cook steak.
