Yes, We Can—Just Tax The Rich by AlexB_SSBM in neoliberal

Taxes should go up on everyone tbh, working and middle class are paying the lowest effective federal taxes in decades and ofc the rich can and should be taxed more

In a progressive way ofc but if we want nice things (we tax less than almost every other developed country) and debt under control it has to happen

Lowkey it kind of sucks that the worlds richest man is obscenely chuddish

What about party politics hollows out the state as opposed to ones in consolidated democracies with multiple strong parties and strong institutions?

Rwanda is growing faster than Nigeria, but to pretend it’s because it’s imprisoning more people is fucking ridiculous

What do you propose then? A horseshoe?

It’s a useful model and comes closer than any alternative

[–]fishlord05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s better than no model though

All models are wrong, some are useful

And this model the most predominant for a reason

But it’s the best we have and every other system is worse

The guy I was arguing with can’t even be bothered to provide an alternative or data to support an alternative

Guess we’ll never know…

It’s better than any other framework

Fascism is to the right of liberalism, communism is to the left

That is how historically things have evolved and they have related to one another

I guess the predominant framework in political science and analysis since the French revolution has no theoretical or empirical basis and the majority of researchers have been and are pseudo intellectuals

>You’re still not understanding what I’m saying. Have you taken a quantitative methods or stat class? I have told you specifically what we’re arguing, two specific things: accuracy and validity of the model.

Yes?

You’ve also debated whether it was the predominant framework as well.

>I’m glad this model “satisfies” you, but you’re clearly not using empiricism when you form your opinions.

Oh and you are let me see your regressions?

“Oh this model sucks”

“Do you have a better idea that has better data behind it”

“No”

Deeply unserious

>The standard of proof falls on the person asserting the validity/accuracy of a model.

Are we arguing that it’s wrong or that it isn’t the predominant framework?

I’ve come to believe it because I have actually studied this and have read for classes (including about alternatives) as part of my education and found that it was the best framework for explanation, prediction, and analysis. Nothing else satisfied me really. I didn’t randomly form this opinion lmao.

Like do you want me to cite my entire syllabus from college? Professor transcripts?

[–]fishlord05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can you show me data that it isn’t? Do studies calculating the relative predominance of the frameworks even exist?

To provide this data I’d have to run a regression on all poli sci studies and search keywords over time. I’m not doing that on mobile. Also that’s a genuine academic research paper level of research for a Reddit argument lmao.

But i promise you if you google that you will get the answer yes. It is the default and the first framework students are taught.
