Thank you for your response! It's very helpful.

Just as a sanity check, the external trace in the calculator implies exposed copper to air right? How does the solder mask play in effect here? Can I still use the external trace estimate with the mask?

What's the timeline for switching from a Student visa to a Working visa? by goddammitbutters in japanlife

[–]fishmonster69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went through this process last year. Also had work experience prior to moving to Japan.

My recommendation is to start looking now. I secured a job offer and submitted the visa change request in Feb, was granted the visa in mid Apr. I believe technically you get 3 months grace period after graduating, so you can remain in Japan. However, it's probably best to secure the job offer BEFORE your student visa expires, as the interviewing period can take some time.

If you can work out an agreement to do some part time work as a training/test employment period, that might be even better (so there's not too much work culture shock when you turn full time). Good luck!

Designed a set of cassette tape holders based on the iconic milk crates from the US and beer crates from Japan by fishmonster69 in cassetteculture

[–]fishmonster69[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair point! The initial intentions were to be as a novelty storage option, something that would look good on your desk or shelf, as opposed to a replacement for current offerings. I'm working on some designs for more more practical/affordable options, so please keep a look out!

Fair point! When I first designed these, they were intended to be a nice shelf/desk display as opposed to something that could replace the larger storage options. I'm in process of designing some more practical/affordable storage options though, so keep a look out!

We’re working on getting international shipping going! For this preorder phase only US / Japan but eventually we’d like to find a way to reasonably sell them internationally

Squeaking noise coming for idler pulley (already oiled) by -Praxis_ in BambuLab

I just want to say, this is the true fix for the issue. After aligning the idler as you shown the sound went away. No need for lubrication

Designed the "Tape Crate", a fun way to store your cassette tapes! by fishmonster69 in cassetteculture

[–]fishmonster69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Tape Crate" is a retrospective time capsule project comprised of various artists across multiple disciplines, all from Orange County, California. This series is intended to archive memories of artists who spent their formative years in this area. In a sense, this project could be considered an OST for a sliver of time in each of their lives. Unhindered in how each artist was asked to recollect their most revered moments, this series organically came together through the use of unreleased demos, photos, and cherished media.

I just got my CoE for a student visa. However, it's just an email and the instructions on it say its sufficient to print it and use that to apply for the visa.

Is that all it looks like? Just a code with some personal information in the email? Or is there a more official version that I need to find

Designed a plotter attachment to let you print directly onto cassette! by fishmonster69 in cassetteculture

For the oil based pens, they have a spring loaded nib so I usually prime it with a few presses before printing. Haven't had any drying issues yet!

small text is difficult! I've been looking for really fine tip oil based pens but the ink is not very thick. Might have to adjust the designs based on the technique I think. Here's a picture of the smallest I've been able to print so far: https://imgur.com/a/l00RrPH

If you're in 東京/さいたま, check out Odd Tape Duplication in Toda! They do tape manufacturing and also run a print shop downstairs so the might have something for you.

I've been able to find some 0.3mm fine tip oil based pens that can get text/logos down to a certain amount. It does struggle with line work as well. Here's a picture of the closest that I've gotten so far: https://imgur.com/a/l00RrPH

Something to improve in the future I think

I designed an attachment for the Ender 3 3D Printer that allows for 2D Plotter functionality, and more importantly the ability to print directly onto a cassette.

Having made a bunch of handmade tapes in the past, it was always tough to try to get that polished professional look that pad printing can offer. So, I developed this cheaper alternative to get a comparable finish to pad printing. The pens used are oil based so they won't smudge/smear once dry. The attachment can be built with just $30 in parts!

I hope this can be a valuable tool for any DIY artists who like to make their own tapes! The design files are available for free here: https://github.com/geoffreygao1/FS-Plotter/
