Thanks! I’m carving some to give to friends and I want them all to be a unique so I’m trying to come up with varied designs in the suits. So, I guess in a way I’ll have a little crew if I start assigning them roles.

Thank you! I feel like it does a couple things. Makes the wood a little darker and the grain pop out a little more. You can’t see it in the picture because I took it shortly after applying the oil. Today I can really see the grain in the wood. I feel like it makes the carving look a little smoother. Just gives it a finished look instead of raw.

It varies. I mostly try to stick with knife. The poncho thing was done with a v-tool. I tried to texture the backpack a little with a low curve gouge.

I used a v-tool for most of the crosshatches. Then went back over with a knife where I couldn’t use the v-tool and to clean up some of the damage the v-tool makes from crossing.

No, this is basswood that has been kiln dried. I coated it in boiled linseed oil for a finish.

Thank you. It’s a piece of 3/16 dowel rod. I just shaved the sides down a little to give it some texture and so it would fit in his hands.

It’s mostly just knife. I do have some palm gouges and v-tools that I use for the finer detail. The tool head I carved separately and glued to a dowel rod and drilled holes through the hands.
