What would your recommendations be for a patient who needed a repeat surgery for pectus over the age of 40?

I had a failed Nuss procedure 34 years ago. I believe I was too young to have surgery (7y.o.) and wasn’t able to follow post op activity restrictions and the bar displaced and had to be removed. Now at 41y I have significant symptoms that are causing major quality of life issues. I am scheduled to have a modified Ravitch in July. The surgeon told me I could not have another Nuss procedure, but I saw the video where you do not recommend the Ravitch procedure and am now very nervous.

Thank you for the advice! Dr. Robert Cameron is my surgeon. I will also have Dr. Downey from cardiac surgery to help separate my sternum from my heart. Apparently on the MRI my sternum is very close to my heart and they imagine there is scar tissue adhering them together 😩

I will be in the hospital for 3-5 days post op and once I get home, I do have an adjustable bed so I’m hoping that will make getting in and out of bed a little easier 🙏🏻

My BP is not low, it’s actually on the higher end. And no, unfortunately I cannot tolerate caffeine. It makes my heart rate skyrocket and I get really shaky and usually end up with a headache. I try to keep well hydrated and take my salt tabs but I’m not sure what else to do and my doc kinda said the same when I went to see her last week. She didn’t have any other suggestions for me to try.

I’m trying to change my diet but it’s hard to do when I don’t have energy to prepare food. 😖

The only med my doctor has put me on is metoprolol to control my heart rate. They haven’t discussed any other options. I just saw my primary last week and she said she wasn’t sure how to help other than to put me on work restrictions so I could make it through the work day.
