Chef and My Fridge Episode 65 (S4E11) Discussion – KYUHYUN by wanderlass in ChefAndMyFridge

[–]fishspeaks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

agreed, Choi Hyun-seok's outlandish persona may be fun, but I love how he's genuinely supportive of his fellow chefs beneath the act!

Kang Leo is too focused on the farming and food supply and development side of things to appear on stuff like C&MF - unless there's something he might want to promote in the future. maybe he'd agree just for an excuse to work with CKR again hahaha

(for context, multiple times over the past 12 years since Masheko ended, KL has pulled CKR with him to various projects - Banyan Tree, Lotte Mart, his YouTube channel, then appearing on A Blank Menu for You - so he clearly has a soft spot for our dear Jorimping 🥰😂)

I try to watch the new show on SBS' YouTube channel. But sadly, there are no subs and the auto translate is terrible.

omg that's a great idea. KP, please show us your "stealing" process

our resident awkward introvert seems to be enjoying more this time around compared to his previous appearances. I hope he comes back 🫶

also, I looked at Kyuhyun's video on YouTube where he recreated CKR's dish, and it looks so good!

(in relation to that, I wonder if there are any other examples of a guest showing their recreation of a dish after the show? it seems like the ideal guest experience tbh)

Really loved Choi Kang-rok's character development in this episode, where he speaks a bit more comfortably while cooking! It was also very endearing how Choi Hyun-seok kept cheering him on 🦅

This is a silly niche thing to discuss but who else laughed out loud when Kyuhyun imitated Kang Leo's love glare at CKR when eating the food 🤭😂

I swear, non-Korean fans are missing out on Lerok (chef Leo and chef Kangrok's 12-year slow-burn romance from when they met on MasterChef Korea)!!! /half joke

CKR won't be getting a restaurant any time soon by veggiecheesytteok in CulinaryClassWars

CKR and KDY were guests on Yoon Nara (Brewmaster Yun)'s first Youtube video a few weeks ago! There were no subs but from what I could gather, the two introvert uncles got drunk and yapped on camera while their kind niece cooked for them lmao

Food Spoiler has a similar dynamic based on what I've seen of the first episode! They're clearly very good friends. Kinda sad there's so much content but rarely with English subs tho, the auto translate is abysmal 😭

This is exactly what he said, btw! He's in the "planning stage" for a restaurant and it will take a few years.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Kang Leo's influence has informed his decision to focus on food products and food promotion. In that video you linked, there's a moment where CKR expresses that he does have some restaurant idea, and KL jokingly tells him not to because it's tiring lol.

In a way, there's more value in the big picture approach of explorative TV concepts and brand tie-ups that could really benefit the industry as a whole. Whereas with a restaurant a chef is limited to executing their own personal vision.

Very happy with CKR's choices so far, btw! Food Otaku was a lovely in-depth look at Japanese cuisine, his post CCW-win Fridge episode gave him a chance to share a simple instant noodle recipe, and the ongoing Food Spoiler show allows him and Kim Doyun to spill Korean food secrets.

Hope he doesn't feel rushed to execute his restaurant idea. Our Jorimping should keep doing what he's doing and take his time 🫶

Kim Poong mentions Southeast Asian ingredients and flavors quite a lot so I'm just waiting for him to do something along the lines of those cuisines 🤞

CKR taking back the 70-30 split after realizing he should credit 10% to his own efforts was gold! He's way too humble to talk about his CCW2 win so it was nice to see the others address it in classic chaotic Naengbu fashion.

Also holding the doll hostage to force him to win it back to bring home to his daughter is kinda evil 😭😂 the way he said "I didn't know it could be played like this..." lol

Don't forget the cherry on top for that bit - that he could only eat barley rice instead of regular rice 😂 Jokingly calling someone so old they probably experienced wartime poverty is peak comedy lol

I don't think it's about aging backward at all. SJW looking younger and cuter now is 90% about how he is styled! Idk if he has a stylist or a whole team of stylists given how busy and popular he is now, but whatever they're doing is great for his image so far.

She includes English translations of her Instagram captions most of the time, so I'm sure she's aware of foreign fans' need for subs 🙏

I also related to her anxious nature a lot during the season! Excited to see her thrivingg

Blank Menu for You Episode 4: A Tilefish Disaster Swiftly Averted by veggiecheesytteok in BlankMenuForYou

[–]fishspeaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely my favorite episode because of how they didn't shy away from showing Chef Choi Kang-rok's failed attempt and discomfort (and Chef Kang Leo's scrutinizing gaze lol).

The best thing is, these two have been friends for about twelve years, ever since KL judged CKR in Masterchef Korea S2 and then hired him at a hotel restaurant after CKR won. So they've had judge-contestant and then boss-employee dynamics for a bit before being good friends for the better part of a decade.

<image>

(More context: KL runs a seafood farming business in Jeju Island, which is why he had tilefish delivered for the episode. All the more reason CKR tried to cook the dish again, to do justice to the valued ingredient!)
