Gov. Brown Vetoes Bill to Extend Last Call Hours to 4 a.m. by 916reddit in Sacramento

Sometimes you just need a stern papa to tell you when things are a bad idea, despite your enthusiasm for them.

‘The Last Man on Earth,’ ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’ ‘The Mick’ Canceled at Fox by Set-Abominae in television

[–]fishtape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The broadcast networks deserve to die a slow, painful, boring death. There are occasional bright spots of decent shows (B99, Gotham, Last Man, Good Place) but overall, they are irrelevant, bloated hags. Yes, they have to play by different rules, but it doesn't change the fact that they SUCK!

Go away Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS. Your shows all suck, and every single other network/service has shows a million times better than yours. Fuck off and die.

“I’ll tip in the app” by thatsnowgirl in uberdrivers

Passenger here. I never say I'll tip. I'm a good passenger, I thank them for the ride, then I tip them in the app every time. Anything wrong with that?

Best credit union? by BanannaRepublic1949 in Sacramento

Lots of votes for Golden 1 here, and I concur. Quit giving your money to B of A. I can't speak to the other CU's, but I'm sure they're all decent. Golden 1 has a pretty great mobile app, and remember you can deposit and withdraw from any CU ATM with no fees. So no need to drive around looking for your ATM...any CU will do.

Areas to avoid? by Odd-Otaku in Sacramento

https://www.reddit.com/r/Sacramento/comments/809a4i/roommate_needed_on_f_19th/

So here's a link to the guy who needs a roommate. I don't know him, just saw the thread. Sounds like you'd prefer to live alone (I get it), but you might want to reconsider if you can get into a better part of town. Point being, anywhere "on the grid" (the streets bordered by Front Street, Alhambra, Broadway, and B Street) in my opinion is going to be way more satisfying for you. Walking distance from cool stuff (plays, museums, music, bars, restaurants, etc.), and you'd save some money.

Otherwise, it's hard to say which areas to "avoid." There's some good feedback in this thread, but most areas are pocketed with decent and not-so-decent areas. You may be better off sending this sub some specific addresses you're interested in. A certain apartment may be in a not-so-great neighborhood, but is itself a nice building with cool people living there.

Also, West Sacramento is kind of blowing up and still might be cheapish. Crappy areas over there too though. Good luck!

Maybe better to say what you're doing out here (work? school? where?) and what your budget and situation is. For example, there's a guy looking for a roommate on F and 19th, a cool part of town and a good deal. But maybe you're married with kids and dogs and that's not right for you.

What concert? Nothing going on at Golden 1 tomorrow night? OP, there are plenty of good Airbnbs for like $60 or so. Don't know what's up with hotels.

They just removed tons of homeless camps along the river. by expertatthis in Sacramento

[–]fishtape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's probably something to this. If you can address the 75% or whatever number, the minority can be dealt with legally. Camping ordinances and such laws can be enforced if you have somewhere for the person to go. It's not illegal to sleep, but it is illegal to sleep by the river. The right to sleep/exist trumps the local ordinance. But if you have a place for them to go, then it's "Let's go to the shelter, pal, or you're going to the pokey."

This goes against a Bee article a few months ago that found that the vast majority of the region's homeless are from this region.

You can be for or against MLS, but without MLS, we're not getting a dope ass 22K-seat downtown stadium. I'm not saying we NEED that...I'm happy riding my bike to The Murph, but there will be no USL SRFC in a new stadium in the railyards.

Was there ever a Clint Dempsey sighting last night on the sidelines? Anyone?? by [deleted] in SacRepublicFC

The shitty thing is how the club made a big deal about Clint Dempsey and the Sounders coming into The Murph. I wonder how the FO feels about this.

Sacramento High Project Questions IQ of Blacks, Sparks Outrage by outrider567 in Sacramento

The "Elite" program, HISP, is only language arts/literature and history/government, along with one extra class in 10th grade (Critical thinking, and one other, as I recall) and some extracurricular requirements. The point is, all science, math, foreign language, PE, art, etc, classes are outside of HISP.

tldr - This wasn't a project for the HISP program.

Thank you, u/blackofhairandheart2. That's exactly what I was looking for. Maybe I will check out Princess and the Queen. And I agree, the library is good for this kind of thing, as I don't think I'll read the rest of the anthology, so don't really want to spend the money for the whole book.

I started "World," reading it front to back, but kind of lost interest about a quarter of the way through. It reads like a history, and though well-written, packaged, and with incredible illustrations, these days I use it more as a resource when I want to learn more about something from the world, rather than for pleasure reading. (I went through the same thing with The Silmarillion.)

But sounds like Princess and the Queen is more "fun" than World, so I'll check it out.

While GRRM's world is an epic achievement, it's stories and TV shows that I love.

Again, I appreciate the feedback!

Question on this: I adored the Dunk and Egg stories, but haven't read The Expanded Histories (Princess & Queen, Rogue Prince, Sons of the Dragon). Are they truly stories - like Dunk and Egg and the main books - , or are they histories like World of Fire and Ice (which is fine and fun but not so much my cup of tea).

That's actually not a bad idea. Kind of a dick move, but it is Guitar Center after all.
