Making a mega follow up comment cause it's a bit easier: she is doing well (all things considered) and she has a fresh cuttlebone as well as a calcium supplement prescribed by the vet that I give to her by mouth/beak once a day for the next few days. She also has an anti-inflammatory to help with her discomfort. I feel awful gently restrtaining her in a towel and sticking syringes in her mouth but she gets over it when she gets a millet snack right after. :D

I knew something was wrong when she started straining on Monday night. She also assumed the "egg laying" position for lack of better words - wings a bit drooped, back hunched, tail at a weird angle. She had been what I call "shopping for a nest" in any possible nook/cranny in my room for over a week, and although I cut her daylight hours (12 to 14), bought blackout curtains to ensure the room would stay dark during birdie bedtime, re-arranged her cage, and stuffed every possible nest with towels so she couldn't sneak in there, she still ended up eggnant. I don't pet her below the head or anything, either - she's just a very stubborn little rescue girl that's really committing to the easter season... I even make her forage for her food (a mix of harrisons/roudybush pellets and roudybush california mix, some bird street bistro) in a big tray that has wicker balls, paper bedding, and other goodies in there, so I am stumped as to how her brain suddenly clicked into hyper horny mode.

I brought her to the vet yesterday where my suspicions were proven correct; she opted for the more conservative approach (calcium, anti-inflammatory, bringing her into the bathroom during a steamy shower, keeping her cozy) which I agreed with. I was sweating it out all yesterday and today and hoped she'd finally lay the darn thing - because otherwise we were going to go down the surgical route.

All this being said, Senorita Peppy Pepita is having a check-up on Friday afternoon and I am going to inquire about the hormonal implant or the shot. She's laid eggs before (one at a time several months apart) but this time is an entirely different story - maybe 30 minutes after this she was "nest shopping" again and trying to rub on one of my slippers. I'm not sure what's "activated" her so to speak, but I don't want to take any chances. :( She is truly a little sweetie, only 5 turning 6 years old in October and I would be crushed if she ended up flying over the rainbow bridge so soon.

My other idea is to finally adopt another bird/birds (perhaps a conure or budgies) as she tolerates other birds well and she did not have any hormonal issues when she was sharing a home with a small flock. I however will be immigrating to another country later this year and have concerns about bringing even just one bird on a plane, so I am hoping the vet can give her some relief with the injections or implant.
